Title; There Are No Lionhearted
Word Count; 267

I hate rain. When we were kids, Squall and Cloud used to go out and play anyway, climbing up the castle walls, but then Cloud nearly broke his neck on a tower and Aerith cried for days, so they gave up adventures on days like that.

Not like I got included much anyway. They were big boys and I was just a Ninja Trainee, a hint of greatness chasing their shadows. But who cares about them and their “epic battles of heroic proportions.”

So on days like that, somehow, I would find myself carried off to the library. I still didn’t see much of the guys then, but Aerith would stick around. Read me fairytales. Legends of heroes that never got bored of their dragons and princesses content with their ever afters. I hated those stories, but when Aerith started you felt like there was a magnet in your brain to her voice.

Lately there haven’t been many heartless to kill, and Leon (I think I liked him more when he was Squall) takes care of the patrols more than ever, and Cloud has decided he’s going to perfect the art of being Cloud, so it’s just been Aerith and I again, like when we were kids, like when I was growing up, and sometimes if I ask sweet enough, she’ll stop what she’s doing, sometimes she won’t, and she’ll tell me a fairytale from memory, because we never could find that book in all the castle ruins.

And I still can’t stand how lionhearted she paints them to be, but like hell I’ll tell her so.
