Sorry for any mistakes in this. Oh, and please enjoy.

Riku tilted his head up welcoming the rain; it was as if the heavens were crying with him over his grave loss.

A hand being placed on his armor clad shoulder brought Riku out of his thoughts.

“Everything is going to be alright” the blond haired knight whispered, “We’ll pull through this, just like we did last time.”

Riku pulled away from the man, renewed tears streaming down his face competing with the rain.

“No Cloud, we won’t. This isn’t like last time.” Riku closed his eyes willing the tears to stop and the pain to go away. “We won’t wake up the next day thinking he’s dead only to find him sitting in bed reading old tails of the Holy Grail like a child. He’s gone, he’s really gone.”

For once Cloud knew their beloved king was gone for good and that there was nothing the two of them could do to get him back. But he had to press on, had to keep going as if everything would be alright in the end. Even if the end seemed just as dark and hollow as Cloud himself felt.

“We have to…it’s what he would have wanted.”
It was but a ghost of a whisper, barely audible over the pouring rain.

“Cloud?”
Cloud and Riku both looked to the owner of the little voice.

“Princess Namine,” Cloud knelled down in front of the small child that was holding a worn stuffed bear. “You shouldn’t be out here in the rain. Come now.”
Cloud stood and gently took hold of the little girl’s hand only to have her try to pull away from him.

“No! I’m not going anywhere without daddy!”

Riku fell to his knees weeping before the daughter of his deceased king. He couldn’t handle the look of sadness and confusion she had given him.

“Why did they put him under the ground by mommy? He’s going to get cold!”
Tears ran freely down Cloud’s face as Namine, only heir to the throne, cried while she hugged her stuffed bear closer to herself.

Lord Cloud Bristow of the King’s Holy Knights could only will the tears away as he picked the small child up into his arms and began walking towards the castle, leaving his long time friend to weep in front of the grave of their once proud king.

Sir Riku Keigwin of the King’s Royal Guard choked back a sob as he silently read the carefully inscribed writing on the gravestone before him.

“Here lies King Sora Howell Pennant III. Great King, beloved husband, and cherished father. He shall live on in our hearts for the rest of eternity.”
