Title: Fade
Word Count: 312
Notes: AxelxRoxas. Maaaajor spoiler for the.. endish of the game. I was originally going to make a full-fledged fic of this, but decided it's more effective as a drabble.

He faded, but not completely.

The husk that wore the black coat had disintegrated and floated away like the debris fleeing in the wake of his own fires, but it was scientifically impossible for him to fade entirely. It was something about matter and converting and other stuff that he hadn’t really cared about at the time he’d heard it, and he thought it funny that he should remember it now. He would much rather exert the last of his dying energy on remembering other things; things he cared about. Those times when maybe his chest didn’t feel so empty, when they had pretended to have hearts together, carving fake ones into each other. Roxas had called it something once, but the word escaped him now and whatever was still in-tact of his chest ached to think of it. Whatever that word was.

Still, no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t focus on those days and nights. His mind wandered, returning again and again to the fading nothing that he has become; he isn’t dead, he just isn’t pieced together in the familiar form he used to be. He is scattered now - like a dream – and as thoughts of science and energy and blue eyes twist and dance in his mind, he knows it isn’t over; not just yet. After all, Nothing is eternal.

Also, the grim reaper can blow him if it thinks it’ll get the better of him.

He will reassemble himself somewhere, perhaps worlds apart or cities away, maybe right on top of those blue eyes. Wherever it is that he’s pieced back together doesn’t matter; he’ll never forget those eyes. They’re his mission now, and he’s never taken failure all too well. He’ll find them again. He’ll lean down and say,

“Boo.”

Sora jumped, swallowing a startled yelp and spun on the heel of his shoe.
