This isn't part of the challenge, just something that hit me at four in the morning. Perhaps Olympus is AU in its own right? Either that or there was something I didn't quite catch when it came to these characters.
Title: Epilogue
Word Count: 257
“Why didn’t you stay?”
Leon’s still standing in the open doorway, hands toying with the handle of the gunblade, blue eyes sweeping everywhere around the room - everywhere but on Cloud. Cloud frowns and takes a step around the bed, bright eyes alive and shining ever since he arrived. “Well?”
“You were… you had your contracts. And Traverse Town…”
He’s making excuses, and he doesn’t know why he’s doing it. Seeing his friend after all those years and only spending one day with him – only one, stupid day – for that equally stupid tournament, and then just up and disappearing into thin air…
What reason could he give?
“… I don’t know.”
Cloud’s eyes haven’t left him yet, and the distance between them feels farther than just the fifteen feet from arched doorway to four poster bed. Only one night had passed, and already the blonde had cleared away most of the dust and strewn his meager things about, turning what had once been his childhood into something new, something Leon didn’t have a name for yet.
“… That’s it?”
“Yeah.”
He nods, turning to glance out the opened balcony at the soft horizon. “They still serve breakfast early here?”
“I think so…”
“Let’s get some then. We’ll talk more outside.”
Leon lets out the breath he was holding, tension leaking out of him as Cloud approaches, catching his arm to hold him back.
“One more thing… Did you ever find what you were looking for?”
Cloud glances through his bangs, then nods, leaning in. “I’m home, aren’t I?”
