With frustration consuming his false heart like the taint of bitter ashes, he stalked soundless through the empty shadowed halls in the pursuit of his hated brother-sire, that darkling silver prince too craven to embrace his own power.
Idiot! Unworthy, arrogant!
But whole, in a way that he himself could never be; unless he could find that half-false world formed from oblivion's own mists that the silver shadow fled to – and then destroy him, drink him down like ruby wine.
Unfinished, imperfect he had been left, a flaw that burned him with night's own fire. But that was simply remedied; and he would remake himself into something more than his unknown creator had ever wished ...
Seeking out his other's presence was as simple now as following a phantom trail of tarnished heart's-blood, now that he'd fed so deeply on the dream-forger's empty soul and left the shattered wreck behind to gasp inky ichor onto the castle's pale marble tile.
Why, he could all but taste the smoky-sweetness of the fallen key-bearer's blackened heart.
His own heart may be hollow, a cunningly-wrought bauble, and he no longer remembered why – though a flicker of pale hair and frost-laced words taunted him still with a betrayal now lost – but soon it would no longer matter.
Teeth set in a hunter's grin, he stalked from the shadows to face down his hated, longed-for reflection.
Once he tore away his progenitor's pathetic life and took it for his own, he would be his own creature; beholden to no lifeless mockery in black, a darkness edged with knife-sharp dream.
