Title: [soulcage]
Challenge: None
Wordcount: 283
Characters: Riku, ( -------- ); others mentioned
Spoilers: Spoilers for the final KH2 world and events thereof, portions of the KH2 ending, and some game / character background. Proceed at own risk XD
Notes: For some there is no such thing as freedom; and redemption is a bitter thing to have to swallow.
The battle is over, now, the day is won; and he can feel the dark despair closing ice-splinter jaws around his battered soul, a pain that echoed the plaintive cries of the wayward heart still bound deep within his own wounded self.
If the Sage – in his wisdom – pulled the darkness from me
why didn't he make him whole again ..?
Why not, indeed? And why did the silver-shadow himself not speak up then, when he still wore that twisted dark-heart's face in place of his own, eyes burning coals instead of cold sea-fire?
Because, because – he always was a bitter creature, born to twilight as he was; and freedom was the last gift he would have wished for the darkling beast that had tried to eat him whole and take his flesh.
In the pain-rending moment that cleansed him of the thorn-sweet taste of shadow the sun-eyed king was gone --
And he was left, he and his companions, to face down the soft-tongued hollow shell of the heart – now cleansed, and grieving – still locked down deep inside, as an endless cry of mourning echoed through his soul and tore unknowingly at his own mended spirit.
Yet still he held his tongue.
So here he was, now, bloodied and heart-torn in a world born of the darkness; and there was little doubt what failing had led him to this place, with his friend and companion once again pulled in the wake of his own transgressions.
Damned by a wayward heart and his own darkness, he in turn condemned that heart to be forever bound; salvation snatched away in a moment's bitter spite.
Xehanort – I'm sorry ...
