I will be doing more with the Zodiac idea. But later.
Title: Key
Word count: 192
Characters: Riku and Roxas
Spoilers: Slight ones if you haven't gotten past the intro.
Notes: Inspiration for this one came from something written by one of the lovely mods. Much, much more depth could be gotten into with Riku and Roxas, but the trick is how to throw them together in the first place. They're a duo I think I shall explore a bit further.
Eventually I might start going in alphabetical order with these prompt things I've been posting. For organization's sake.
Sometimes they talk.
This should be impossible, they both know it. But when Sora sleeps and there is no moon there is Roxas. Riku discovered this by chance, one dark night, when the two best friends camped out (without tents, of course) on the beach.
Riku turned to see Roxas; both were instantly terrified and angry and extremely confused.
But neither made a move, because Sora was between them.
With no other option, a halting conversation eventually picked up.
Repent, repent, repent your sins.
Sora finds it curious that Riku suddenly wants to spend more nights at the beach (he never notices the timing), but he doesn't mind; he loves it there anyway.
And night after night, Riku and Roxas talk.
Riku finds Roxas calming; he is like a balm on the burn Sora's bright sunshine can cause. Roxas, for his part, is simply glad to have company.
But despite themselves, their conversation turns again and again to the one thing they could never truly have:
the key.
On nights without the moon, two impossible friends sit and gaze at the stars and contemplate the irony of lacking the one thing that the bond between them possesses.
