Notes: Post KH2, Sora, Kairi, Riku. Idle thoughts have a way of becoming plans for adventure. Enjoy!

Travel, sleep, and a smaller world...

"-And the way Arista kept looking at you after she caught the bouquet-" Sora grinned at Riku, hands on the controls.

"I'm just glad they didn't do a guarter toss," Kairi laughed. "Where would they have put it?" She was swaddled in a bathrobe and slippers over her nightgown, combing out freshly washed hair. Kairi lifted the coral combs sitting on her lap and showed them to Riku. "Souvenirs," she grinned. "Adella told me to keep them because they matched my tail better than hers."

Riku laughed. "A tail which you don't have most of the time. So- gift from one Princess to another?"

Kairi swatted him, embarrassed, as usual, by mention of her 'royal' status.

"Those'll make a conversation-starter back home," Sora grinned over his shoulder at them. "'Kairi- where ever did you get them?" he said in a falsetto imitation of Selphie.

They all laughed- then Kairi frowned. "Is that okay? Donald and Goofy were saying something about not meddling-"

"They were teasing," Sora assured her. "They did more damage to the world order by being a walking, talking dog and duck running from place to place than you can cause taking home a few hair thingies."

Riku smiled. "The worlds are a lot closer than they used to be. Skateboards are all over the place now- Munny is an accepted form of currency on most of the worlds- there's a Moogle synth place in just about every town. Other than describing how we get from world to world- which you should try to avoid doing- don't worry about it."

Kairi nodded, at ease once again.

They talked, laughed, and eventually grew quiet.

Sora turned at a whirring noise and saw Riku manipulating Kairi's chair, tilting it back until it flattened completely. She was fast asleep, hugging a pillow they'd fished out of the bedding supplies in the cargo hold.

Riku traded Sora's grin for a gentle smile and approached the pilot's seat.

"I'll take over for a while," he murmured.

Sora gave him raised eyebrows. "When did you learn to fly a Gummi?"

"When did you learn to fly while sleeping?" Riku answered. He shoved the younger boy lightly on the shoulder. "Take a break, smartass. I'll get us to Port Royal without crashing into anything." They traded seats and turned off all unnecessary lights.

Minutes later Riku was tapping at the controls- listening to the world around him.

Sora had changed into soft, slightly oversized clothes and spread a sleeping bag (size normal for the residents of Disney Castle, a.k.a. 'size medium to extra small') on the other passenger chair, and fallen asleep moments after tilting it to recline halfway. Riku had no idea how that kind of sprawl could be comfortable.

His two friends breathed softly at his back- sleep's rhythm.

Riku stared into the star-dusted blackness. A Gummi Ship's flight was generally smooth- so very smooth at times that he didn't feel as if he were moving at all, and the stars... seemed very far away.

He felt a chill- the dark- being stuck in one place; familiar and unsettling feelings he didn’t want to recall in such vivid detail. He could ignore those thoughts with Sora and Kairi's chatter. Now he listened to their breathing instead, soft, easy, and the softer hum of the Ship's engine. The sounds calmed him, becoming the world. A small one- but very, very good.

Riku powered up the automatic navigator and set his hands on the controls- tapping in a request for directions to Port Royal. He smiled, hearing King Mickey's voice whisper from his memories.

"Welp- the first thing to remember, is to keep an eye on the sky."

They didn't have much in the dark realm. Battles, miles of distance to travel, and each other. They passed time by talking- and it was Mickey's turn.

"Gummies are real easy to handle. You just have to know where you're goin'!"
