Everyone in challenge 81 has done wonderfully, and here's a little bit of thanks from me~. :D

Or here in my Memories.
Title: Vacation (Part 22 and 23)
Word count: 715, 884
Spoilers: Possible for all the games
Notes: Post KH2, Sora, Kairi, Riku. Not overly shippy, hints of a budding Sora/Kairi, don't rule out the OT3(5).
Idle thoughts have a way of becoming plans for adventure. I'm always grateful for a review to hear your enjoyment or suggestions for change- we've got a long way to go and possible adjustments to make along the way. Either way- I hope you enjoy. ^^
Wake-up calls, Xemnas did it better, and a Pirate's loyalty...
Riku flinched at the electronic chirping and buried his head in the sleeping bag.
It continued unabated.
Glaring blearily, muttering to himself, Riku pulled himself off the floor and fumbled for the switch next to the radio transmitter.
"What?"
"Good morning, sunshine!" a voice sang out of the speaker.
"...Sora what do you want?"
"Kairi and I were wondering if you wanted to come down some time today."
He gave a long-suffering sigh. "Yeah, I guess so." Riku smiled and scratched a hand over his scalp. "I'll meet you guys and we can get lunch or-"
"Uh- no- why don't you go into town, see the sights... then meet up with us later!"
Riku frowned, clamping down on the stab of hurt that comment evoked. It quickly turned to concern. Whatever paranoia he'd had about his friends in the past- even though it came up every now and again- he knew it was unfounded. He knew they wanted him around... even though he had to remind himself of this fact more often than it should have been necessary. If Sora was telling him to meet up with them later-
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing!" Sora protested- far too quickly.
"You've never been a good liar, Sora," Riku said, turning up the volume on the speakers. He was a step away from the cargo hold when he stopped dead. A horrible- gut wrenching thought came to him. "Sora, where is Kairi?"
"I am so a good liar-" he was saying over Riku's frantic query. There was a brief crackling sound- static- Sora had probably fumbled the Pigeon.
"I'm right here, Riku," Kairi calmly butted in.
"Are you two okay?" he asked, stripping off his shirt. He was going to get dressed and then he was going down there to drag them out of... whatever they'd gotten themselves into. "Where are you?"
"We're fine, we just can't go anywhere at the moment," Kairi said.
"I'm gonna need a little more detail than that," he said, crumpling the soft T shirt in his hands.
He could hear murmuring. Riku dropped easily into the cargo hold- flipped the on switch to a similar speaker in the wall and rifled quickly through his duffle bag for clean clothes. He stumbled briefly while pulling off the pajama pants and cursed.
"What's he doing?" Sora murmured to Kairi.
"...Uh... you have time for a shower, Riku," Kairi said.
Damnit. She knew him too well.
"Yeah," Sora chimed in. "They're not going to hurt us or anything!"
"Sora, if you don't give me some answers soon-"
"We're in a cell," Kairi volunteered.
Riku stood in the cargo hold, clad only in his boxers and the pajama pants wrapped stubbornly about one ankle.
"You got arrested?"
"No!" Sora cried, indignant.
"So you got captured."
"Well... yes."
"And you're not escaping because?"
"It's not like we can just walk out!"
"...Sora. It's called a Keyblade... because it unlocks things... like a key."
"Riku," Sora broke in- voice oddly serious, "as soon as we break out of here, Port Royal isn't going to be a calm tourist attraction for us. If you're gonna see anything, it has to be now, before we piss off Jack and his crew. Hold on- we've got company-" static- then a deep, gruff voice, muffled by the layers of cloth probably hiding the Pigeon.
He shook his head in exasperation, rifling through his duffle for a change of clothing. As if he'd let them sit there to go wandering around a city he'd already seen. Yes- it had been a run-through during the zombie invasion, just to make sure Sora got the hint about using magic (Riku had learned that King Mickey was right once again- Pete was actually good for something now and then), but he'd still seen it!
"I leave you two alone for a few hours and look what happens," Riku muttered to himself.
"Riku, really," Kairi cut into his musing- their visitor must have left. "Take your time. We're okay."
He rolled his eyes. "I'm going to be on the bridge of the Pearl in ten minutes. Get yourselves out of the cell and meet me there."
He could hear them sigh. "Okay, fine," Sora muttered, "but don't hurt the pirates if you can help it."
Riku smirked. "Right."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mr. Gibbs looked up from his flask as a column of light fell from the sky and settled on the deck.
"...Bad luck," he muttered, backing away from it, "fearful bad luck."
Ana Maria raised her eyebrows, drew a pistol from her belt and pointed it at the shaft of light- which faded to reveal a young man. The rest of the crew had followed her example by the time they could see his slightly rumpled appearance and damp silver hair.
Riku looked around, not making any sudden movements. "Wow. Most unfriendly reception I've ever had."
"I generally take exception to stowaways, lad. 'Specially when they show up out of the blue wearin' outlandish clothing."
Riku focused on Jack; mincing out of the captain's quarters.
"Then you won't mind me taking two off your hands, will you Captain? I'll be happy to shove off as soon as I get my friends."
"What friends would those be now?"
Riku smirked, and Jack smirked in return. Riku pointed without looking. "Them."
The pirates turned as one to regard Sora and Kairi, who'd just emerged from below deck. The latter waved sheepishly.
"Ah," said Jack. He cleared his throat. "Yes, well- I'd be happy to let them go, but there is the slight matter of numbers. Ours, yours... that the former is more than the latter, trivial details such as those. Now if you would happen," Jack said, gesturing to Riku with both hands as he stepped closer, "to know of some way I might secure the Keyblade- ah," he smiled, "then you can have 'em."
Riku's eyes moved slowly, and rested on Sora. The younger boy smiled apologetically. Riku's answering glare promised agony of some kind. Sora winced.
The crew of the Pearl watched curiously as the two young men had a conversation of significant Looks comprehensible to them and their lady friend alone.
"You know," Riku said slowly, continuing to watch Sora and Kairi. "I managed to steal the Keyblade from Sora once."
Jack raised an eyebrow.
"You can get it if your heart is powerful enough." The pale head turned and piercing aqua eyes focused on the Captain. "The trick of keeping it is to have the right kind of power." Riku's gaze flitted up and down, looking Sparrow over. "You're like I used to be, Jack. You don't really care about people further than what they can do for you."
Sora opened his mouth, fell silent as Riku pointed at him.
"He cares indiscriminately."
Jack looked at Sora, then back to Riku.
"Until you can do that- I wouldn't bother trying to get the Keyblade."
"...I'll admit you have a point. But again- there's the matter of numbers. Who do you think would win in a fight between us?"
"We would."
Jack gave an exaggerated flinch and widened his eyes in abject astonishment, looking around at all the guns, then at Riku's seeming lack of weapon.
"Have you ever seen Sora fight someone he genuinely disliked?" Riku tilted his head, evincing curiosity. "Keep this up and you'll see it first-hand. He doesn't like people who hurt his friends. Especially when those people are supposed to be his friends."
Sora and Kairi looked somber, almost upset at that comment.
Jack looked at Riku- then at Sora and Kairi- then at Riku.
"Hell," Riku muttered. "You're not going to change your mind. Fine," he said briskly, "each person in your crew gets to shoot one bullet at me- if none of the bullets hit, Sora and Kairi come with me. If I get hit by even one, I leave bleeding."
"Done-" Jack said instantly.
Gunfire.
The shots were deafening as Sora grabbed Kairi back from jumping into the crossfire.
It was over in seconds.
Riku stood on the deck, Way to the Dawn unsheathed, a few dozen lead spheres scattered across the planks. He didn't even look winded.
"Nice meeting you, Captain," he turned and briskly made his way across the deck.
Jack gaped, looked frantically around the deck- each pistol expelled smoke. "Sodding, bloody little-" he looked down and pulled the gun from his own belt. Jack pointed it at Riku- and found Sora's blade at his throat.
Kairi swallowed her cry, resisting the urge to run to them even as she kept watching the other pirates. Would they try something too?
Riku stood very still, turned his head to look at Jack over his shoulder.
"You agreed to your crew shooting at him. Not you personally, Jack." Sora paused, looking upset, but resolved. "Now if you shoot Riku, you'll lose what little honor you have, I'll fight you and anyone else who tries to hurt us, and the three of us will still leave."
Jack eyed Sora. "You'd do that, lad?"
"I wouldn't enjoy it," he murmured. They looked at each other for a while longer. "Now... is the Keyblade really worth it?"
Jack stood there, thought about it, and sighed as he put away the gun.
Follow the Wind disappeared in a shower of sparks and Kairi ran up to them, throwing her arms around Riku.
"Don't look so disappointed, Cap'n," Sora murmured, stepping back to put a hand on Riku's shoulder. "It's not like you agreed never to try stealing it in the future."
They disappeared in a pillar of light.
Date: 2006-11-05 01:07 am (UTC)Thank you~. :3 I'm very fond of Cap'n Jack- self-sacrificing hero he is not. :D
Thanks! Yeah, I could expect Jack to have another scheme in mind if Sora ever goes back to visit. ^^
Date: 2006-11-03 03:22 pm (UTC)I love the confusion and fumbliness of the first drabble, and Riku with his little pang of doubt. =D The dialogue and Riku, of course, seem so natural, and fun, and Riku nekkers is always a good thing. XD I love how you lead in with the next drabble with Mr. Gibbs and Anamaria. XD That was great, I missed them in the game (and the second movie! WHERE WAS ANAMARIA?). Aaaannnnddd Riku was all Jedi, and there are some tense bits, and Sora knows exactly how to lighten the mood, and GUH. *flails* Vacation owns a share of my soul, I swear. XD Where to next?
Date: 2006-11-05 01:15 am (UTC)People always skip the 'little' things. XD Everyone deserves to see a drabble depicting Riku in a groggy stupor, dangit!
Yuss~ I enjoyed them so much in the film. In the game they weren't there so the designers wouldn't have to keep accounting for them. ;p In Potc2, I think she was gone to make way for the uh... 'love interest' they wanted to talk about for Jack. XD
Aww~ *is a puddle of happily complimented goo* Thank you~~
Next. ;D Next is HT.
Date: 2006-11-05 01:27 am (UTC)*grins* Yeah, I'm going the full dozen-or-so worlds. Definitely not as epic as some of the past projects I've attempted- but this one is more achievable. ;p Thanks for the encouragement. ^^
Date: 2006-11-04 02:12 am (UTC)I love how Sora can never lie to Riku, even if they're not face to face. The little looks between three of them that no one can understand. Love the tension between Jack and Riku, love how badass Riku can be when he wants to and love how fiercely loyal and protective Sora is to Riku and Kairi.
