Challenge: [84] Dust
Title: Collapse
Wordcount: 283
Notes: Spoilers for TWTNW? Not even. And look, look, I used Donald, Goofy, and Mickey, for possibly the first time in my life!
The Dusks forgot first. Sad, pitiful creatures, with their fleeting, insubstantial memories-- they couldn't remember how to remember.
Then, Kairi. She did not want to remember that cold, cruel world that had hurt them all, and so she did not even try.
Goofy, next, and for much the same reasons as Kairi. Why remember that place? The battle was over, and now there were happier things for him to focus on.
After him was Donald. He was simply just too busy to recall the darkness. He had Daisy and he had his family, and that was more then enough for him.
Mickey, the King, knew that he should try to remember. But like Donald, he simply had no time. You can not be a good King if you are focused on old memories, memories that might be better off forgotten anyway.
The day Riku forgot was inevitable-- his ruined adolescence longed to be made up, quickly, quickly, before there was no time left. Riku had to live for the present and the future and somewhere along the way he saw that he had to give up on the past.
It was a much longer time before Sora forgot it. He felt that he should always remember the dead and the dark, because then he could always appreciate the living and the light. But one day he woke up and found that he had simply forgotten to remember.
And when this last person forgot it, The World That Never Was could no longer be. It only gave one final, reluctant, shuddering groan before it finally surrendered and collapsed into itself, going back into the dust and then finally returning to the nothing from which it had been born.

Date: 2006-11-24 07:56 am (UTC)^^;;; And thank you, this is actually my favorite icon...which I also ganked from someone else. So as long as you credit the maker (which is in the keywords for the icon), I certainly don't mind.

Date: 2006-11-22 10:20 pm (UTC)It's a really neat topic. I love the idea that the Nonexistant World could not exist if no one remembered it. Very interesting.
