I know I'm not allowed to enter this challenge, but I thought I'd write something anyway.
Challenge: if I were entering, it would be for [084] Dust
Title: Fair
Word Count: 204
Spoilers: for the end of KH2
It just wasn’t fair. Years of their childhood had been ripped from them, sending their bodies across the galaxies while they should have been home. Making them fight for their lives when they should have been playing and carefree. Even when they came back, their next mission was already waiting for them.
It was their duty, Sora had said. They had been chosen, after all, and people were still counting on them. It was just the way it was, and that was that. His simple words and everlasting smile were as painful as ever.
It would protect them, Riku had said. If you weren’t fighting, you were waiting to die. There was still darkness spilling over far away, and they had to do everything they could to keep it from touching their home ever again.
She knew it was true, all of it to a certain extent. When they comforted her, she felt calmed, and when they promised her, she believed them. Still, she couldn’t help but feel it wasn’t fair. It wasn’t fair that their weapons hadn’t even the time to collect dust before being picked up again. But their fingerprints were etched in the hilts now. This time, they fought for themselves.
