Challenge: [085] Alive
Title: Applicable
Word Count: 342
Notes: (*is on Mother's laptop secretly. shhhh.*) Between CoM and KHII, spoilers for that time frame.
Skin salted with his own sweat and blood, the prince pierced his sword through the last of the woven thorns. Legs weak, breath weaker, he shouldered what courage he had remaining to raise his weapon against the woman ahead. But she turned quickly, pointing towards the tall stone tower beyond.
“The one you have come to save is just a bit further. But I must tell you: years and years ago an evil fairy cursed that person with death.”
“My princess is dead?”
“She didn’t die,” the good witch answered, slowly. “But she’s not alive.”
It’s a sick, twisted mantra that thrums through his mind over and over again as he stands frozen in the dark basement corridors. He tries to shake the words away; it’s just from a story, a stupid fairy tale where the princess wakes with a kiss. Princesses don’t end their sleep with kisses. They end their sleep only when a friend drives a dark shadowed sword through his chest. And the one who puts the princess to sleep is supposed to die, choking on just desserts… yet here he is.
And in this terrible single moment, when he sees Sora for the first time, it’s all he can think of. He didn’t die, but he’s not alive. Silent, suspended, sleeping Sora.
He walks over, placing palm against the surface; fingerprints pressing tight to prove he is there. A glass coffin that shields Sora from ever receiving his wakening kiss. He pulls away quickly and steps backwards to the little girl that walked him down. His mouth is dry and his thoughts wrapped tightly around a childhood phrase.
“Alright. I’ll find this Roxas,” he says, anything to tear his eyes from Sora. The little good witch tilts her head, shifts her feet, and nods. And when he looks at her, looks at her, he almost smiles. Because he’s no longer thinking about Sora and that haunting repetitive line. With this girl’s hidden eyes, drawn breath and stricken quiet smile… he’s found someone the phrase fits much better.

Date: 2006-12-02 03:18 pm (UTC)Done so marvelously well, blending fairy tales together there-- :) And nice choice of staring out, considering the sleeping princess and the dark fairy was Malificent. XD
