kh_drabblei really didn't mean to write another entry for this challenge, but this one just kind of got stuck. >.< oh, and i sort of stole the title from a moody blues song... *runs away*
challenge: ever after (second entry)
title: knights in white satin
word count: 236
notes: um, set after everybody's back at hollow bastion. just a tiny bit of leon/cloud, but not really... yeah.
Gloved fingers ran carefully over the yellowed pages, absorbing images and faded colors, imprinting them in the back of his mind. It even smelled old. In fact, the whole place smelled old, but that was part of what he liked about it.
This had always been his favorite room - surrounded by books, and usually left to himself. He had enjoyed the quiet, then - and he supposed he still did. Though the tiny leather volume now felt awkward in hands that had become all too accustomed to a gunblade. He honestly wasn't sure if anything else would ever feel right.
"What are you looking for?"
He hadn't heard the footsteps on the stairs - quite a feat, considering his battle-strung nerves - but then, that was to be expected.
If it had been anyone else, he probably would have been annoyed. But for some reason, Cloud had never really seemed as intrusive as the others, even when they were younger. He turned his head just slightly, not quite looking at him.
"A happy ending."
Cloud stood silently for a moment.
"I think they're all used up," came the quiet answer.
Blue eyes fell back to the small book in his hands. Castles and dragons and knights in shinning armor...
"Yeah," he replied. "Maybe."
He closed the book gently and placed it on the desk. Cloud said nothing as he walked past him, down the stairs.
