Title: A Business Venture
Word Count: 535
Notes: Moogles. Their shops are everywhere. They control the prices, the merchandise, the synthesis in order to obtain that next most powerful weapon. So how does the local business man deal when the moogles come into town? I thought having Scrooge as an example would be good. No KH2 spoilers.
“Donald, me boy, there’s something I dinna tell you before. Something very important.” Sora, Donald and Goofy paused, the court magician wincing inside. Donald liked his uncle well enough when he wasn’t counting munny or talking about a takeover of McDuck Enterprises. Somehow he knew from intuition that this talk would not be about munny.
“What is it, Uncle Scrooge?”
“It’s about those moogles, boy. They’re trying to run my business inna the ground. Dinna you know?” Scrooge waved his cane over at the moogles shop, eyes angry behind his spectacles.
Repressing the urge for his hand to meet his face, Donald shrugged when his friends gave odd looks. He knew his uncle could be eccentric, but the idea that the old mallard had finally lost it crept into the duck’s mind. “And just how are they doing that, Uncle Scrooge?”
Scrooge leaned close to his nephew. “They have shops everywhere, boy. On every world. And they have first claim rights.” The feathers on Scrooge’s neck bristled, a sure sign of his growing irritation. “Why, it’s enough to have a hard-working duck like myself become desperate. McDuck Enterprises canna gain a foothold anywhere because of those pesky critters. Those moogles,” a scoffing tone, the words harder to follow as Scrooge became angrier, “are becoming a threat to the honest businessman!”
“But they’re just moogles,” Sora spoke up. “Look at them - they have holograms of themselves now to serve the customers so they won’t be hassled. They don’t want trouble.” As if proving his point, a moogle’s kupo cry could be heard across the plaza as an overeager customer tried to reach over the counter and touch its red pompom.
“Ack, laddie, you know nothing of business!” Scrooge critically looked at the young man. “They look innocent, but a sinister mind hides behind those beady black eyes. Donald, me boy, you must tell the king when you see him of this problem. Commerce canna expand from Disney Castle, you understand? The moogles might take over the Gummi ship routes next. You boys will have to pay tariffs between worlds.”
Donald’s head was spinning from the talk of business and the terms his uncle used. He had a mind for magic, not numbers. “I will, Uncle Scrooge, I will.” And crossed his fingers behind his back.
“It’s a conspiracy that’s running amuck, Donald. We have to be careful,” the old duck began to flail his arms, quacking loudly. He looked ready to march over to the shop and demand the moogles to close down. What was worse, people were beginning to look. “The fate of all worlds depends on this conspiracy being stopped, in the name of the entrepreneurial spirit.”
“I promise we’ll see the king about this,” Donald mentioned. A restraining hand on his uncle’s shoulder brought Scrooge back to his senses. “Don’t worry, Uncle Scrooge. You just make your ice cream and I’ll inform His Majesty right away.” With that said, Donald rushed his friends away from his uncle, hoping that the old duck hadn’t seen them buy anything from the moogles in all their other visits to Hollow Bastion.

Date: 2007-02-10 04:26 am (UTC)I didn't want to use the full-blown Scottish accent that I've seen elsewhere, or Scrooge would've become even more impossible to understand than Donald. Thank you, though. :) I'm glad he came across decently.
