Challenge: [None. Yup. You heard me.]
Title: Heartless
Word count: 371
Spoilers: ... Please tell me you've played KHII by now. Yes?
Notes: Uuuuhhh... I write random stoof? Yoss. Yoss I do. I also need to consider that I've missed four prompts straight. Sheesh. EDITS: Because I'm a perfectionist freak. XD
"What?" Sora gritted out, beads of sweat dripping onto his eyelashes, turning the furious blonde wraith that pressed the Oathkeeper and Oblivion down on his own Keyblade into nothing more than an inky pastel smudge, no more solid than smoke. It was all he could do to stay on one knee.
"You were," he could've screamed and Sora couldn't have heard him more clearly, more clearly than the hiss that seemed to cut deep and harsh into his chest, "exactly eight meters, fourteen centimeters behind him."
Metal against metal squeaked, tugging gently at Sora's attention. You're, uh, kinda fighting for your life here. Sora ignored it. He had to keep this lull in place, pin it down. Answers were a precious commodity, of which he had few.
The Nobody leaned down, spoke quietly against his enemy's face. "Eight meters. Fourteen centimeters. You can cover two meters seventeen in one running stride, if you have your heart in it. Pity." He chuckled. "I can't even begin to imagine what that feels like."
"Huh?"
"He took eight seconds to charge his magic, during which his discharge moved in regular, slow patterns. You could've dodged them easily. The Nobodies that had surrounded you two numbered exactly four-hundred thirty-seven. You've defeated twice that number of opponents on your own. Your own magic reserves were near full capacity, and you had sustained only superficial cuts and scrapes. None of them hurt enough to impede your ability to fight. You were more than capable of battle."
Click. "Wait - I mean - when did you - how did you -"
"So my question is this, master of the Keyblade," the stranger with the piercing voice and not-answers leaned over to growl in Sora's ear, "why didn't you stop him?"
Sora's words dried in his throat. The rasp of the question had come from somewhere deep and secret under that husk, somewhere unsure and conflicted and vulnerable as a first kiss. "But..."
The boy drew back; the shadow underneath his hood couldn't obscure a bitter smirk. "If that's what it means to have feelings," he began, pushing Sora off-balance with a shrill squawk of weapon against weapon, swinging both Keyblades behind him in a hungry stance, "I think I'd be better off without them, don't you?"

Date: 2007-02-17 03:13 am (UTC)=3 He's basically asking some questions that I've had since finishing the game myself. I just... wanted to be angsty and dramatic with it. =D Fun times.

Date: 2007-02-18 05:01 am (UTC)It does make you wonder, though. I kind of think that Sora couldn't know that attack would kill Axel. Axel might not even have known it would kill him. But, dude, intense writing.
Again, wow...

Date: 2007-02-18 05:28 pm (UTC)This is just like the week of Axel heartbreak for me.
I love the little subtleties, describing where Roxas is coming from as 'unsure and conflicted and vulnerable as a first kiss'. I love it. Great job :sniffle:
