Sora didn't dwell on many sad things; he kept a bright outlook on life and just pushed forward. He knew that if he stopped and thought about what was going down, it would hurt.

But there were some days that there would be a lull in fighting, where they'd pause in some town and rest; where they would walk past brightly lit houses and he could see the families inside—could hear the call of mothers to their children, bringing them in from the dark.

In the back of his mind, he could still hear his mother calling him down for dinner, that call that he never answered—that night when everything fell apart and he left the islands for who-knew-how-long.

Sora missed his mother and he hoped that he would have another chance to hear her voice calling him down for dinner.
