Challenge: [104] Wonderland
Title: Dying Stars and Other Things You Don't Want To Care About
Word Count: 272
Rating: PG
Characters: Sora and Riku (Sora/Riku if you really want, but it is intended to be gen).
Spoilers: None.
Anything else: It's not quite a wonderful Wonderland.
When Sora met the fawn (who was in fact a boy, in search of the crystal of a dying star which had deceived the moon and so fallen from grace, so that he may consume it and become human again) he was compelled to stroke its soft and shiny down, those baleful brown eyes staring into his as if imploring him to aid the creature on its quest.
Sora did not speak the language of animals (perhaps Donald or Goofy did, but regardless they said nothing) and so continued along the woodland path, leaving the fawn-boy to his fate.
When Riku met the eagle (who was in fact a witch, in search of a fawn who had consumed the crystal of the dying star, so that she may eat his heart and become once again a temptress of flesh) he placed a hand upon her head, and those fierce eyes glared at him as though he had done her a great disservice.
Riku knew what it was to be trapped in darkness, and knew the eagle’s talons sought more than just the next meal. However he knew not of the whereabouts of the fawn (nor indeed, that it was what the eagle-witch wished to find) and so continued along the woodland path.
When Sora and Riku met at the converging fork (one from the East, the other from the West) they travelled along the only remaining path side by side.
And Riku said to Sora, ‘The creatures of this forest are so complex. It’s a relief to know that in my life, all I will ever need to seek is you.’
