Challenge: [104] Wonderland
Title: So This Is...?
Word Count: 524
Notes: An idea that I have for a larger fic in the works, I couldn't pass up this prompt for the sheer enjoyment of it.

"I can well enjoy this world." A chuckle. "Or should I say, I can physically enjoy this world."

Demyx gave a laugh, watching a butterfly whose body was of the same food that its name described flit past. He liked having missions with the card-playing, dice juggling Nobody -- Luxord was always up for a chat over any topic that came to mind. Sitting across from the younger Nobody on a red-spotted toadstool, one leg crossed over the other and his eyes fixing on whatever he found interesting, Luxord could have been a native from this world, sans the coat.

"A nice place to take a break, Luxord. I thought we'd never get away from those flowers." The water-inclined musician leaned back into his large fern that doubled as a hammock. "Marluxia would've had a field day with the rose."

"And try to return with the overgrown plant to the castle. Catch." Luxord tossed a buttercup the size of a teapot to Demyx; a fumbled catch and Demyx looked inside the flower.

"Some sort of drink?"

"Butter tea in a buttercup. This is Wonderland," the Gambler of Fate replied, taking a sip. "Haven't you ever heard the stories, of falling down a rabbit hole and seeing a world where whatever is in your mind becomes a reality? Reality twisted upon its head?"

Demyx cocked his head to the side, considered Luxord's words, realized the man was purposefully being obtuse, and drank his tea. It put to shame the milkshakes that Axel whipped back up on the World That Never Was. Between feeling his teeth tingle from the richness and a lightheaded feeling work through his body, the Nocturne caught sight of a young girl in a blue dress that had entered their glade. She seemed taken aback seeing two black-cloaked figures lounging on oversized plant life.

Luxord kept an impassive face but Demyx saw the man's skin pale. The girl didn't even notice IX swinging in his makeshift hammock; she walked to Luxord's toadstool, looking up in open curiosity at the Nobody.

"Do I know you?" She inquired, blue eyes expectant.

Luxord finished off his buttercup tea in a hurry, crumpling the flower and throwing it over his shoulder. "You must've mistaken me for someone else, child. Like yourself, we're visitors."

To Demyx, Luxord's voice sounded clipped and rushed. His accent matched the girl's perfectly.

She kept pressing. "Are you sure, sir? You look like someone I knew when I was younger."

"This is Wonderland. Not everything or everyone is what you think it to be." Luxord smiled gamely, stared down the rude girl, and waited until she looked away.

"A bother," came the sigh. "For a moment I'd hoped I had seen a familiar face."

"Did you fall down the rabbit hole?" Demyx waved from his fern.

The girl nodded. "I did. I thought it was only a story that my uncle told me, but it seemed that he was right for once." Giving a curtsy to both of them, saying she needed to meet the Queen of Hearts, she walked across the glade and into the tall grass, disappearing from their sight.

Demyx could never figure out why Luxord kept repeating "This is Wonderland" as he watched the girl leave, or why he wasn't up for conversation the rest of the day.

eeee. ♥ this makes me so curious. i hope you do do a longer fic, but this is wonderful, too! i like luxord on a toadstool, looking perfectly comfortable... i can almost imagine him with a hookah. ♥

would marluxia kidnap the white rose, the red, or both? ♥

Bwah, that's a really really nice idea! Indeed, Luxord does have a temperament very fit for Wonderland--which never occurred to me til now. I love the little observation about Alice's accent being the same as his, and his repetition of 'this is wonderland' as she walks away--very haunting. (also, he says 'Wonderland' really prettily in my head XD) Nice job.

That's so very awesome. I think Luxord+Wonderland is my OT...origins theory. It just works so well. :D Good job!

What a fantastic idea - Luxord being from Wonderland. That's just set itself in stone as my favoured backstory for him now. (Far better than having him come from Port R. anyday!)
