Challenge: [104] Wonderland
Title: Abroad in Foreign Kingdoms
Word Count: 610 (sorry if this is a little on the long side, I'll understand completely if it doesn't count for the competition because of this)
(anything else): Maybe I was a little literal with the challenge? Kingdom Hearts OGC (spoilers for the later half of the game), slight implied Alice/Yuffie.

From a very young age, Alice had exhibited signs of a somewhat troublesome tendency to turn up in places she shouldn't. After her encounter with a frightfully impolite old lady and a somewhat sinister dragon, the young girl had found herself in a dark castle with dank stone walls and in the company of an assortment of other curiously dressed ladies, some older, some perhaps younger, many of them she was quite certain were not English.
In fact, if pushed, Alice would have estimated that many of them were colonials, or perhaps natives of some country of which her sleepy-eyed tutor had failed to inform her of. None the less, Alice was a forward thinking girl and considered herself of a practical nature and, considering thus, dutifully began to introduce herself.
Out of the corner of her eye she kept catching glimpses of the boy with the broad smile and the curious looking companions. As she progressed through the small crowd, curtseying and introducing herself in a manner that her governess would have insisted was quite befitting of a young lady, she noticed a number of other curious strangers drifting into the chamber. They seemed to regard the place with a mixture of sorrow and nostalgia. Their mode of dress and the manner in which they carried themselves seemed distinct and of a culture certainly unlike anything she had known, as a subject of the Empire, to expect as standard behaviour.
Amongst the curious collection of ladies she had found herself in the company of, there were many odd and peculiar modes of dress. Some could be easily dismissed as colonial fashion, others as grandiosely old-fashioned and others still as exemplary of a culture native to more ferocious regions but the style and manner of the clothes worn by the newcomers, both male and female, were most unusual.
Being a keen child, she estimated that, from the precision of the cut, the garments were most certainly machine made.
A girl several years her elder stepped forwards and smiled happily at her. She was dressed in a pair of criminally short shorts that showed an indecent amount of flesh and had some manner of protective shielding bandaged around her shins and forearms.
Alice curtseyed and eyed the inappropriately dressed girl suspiciously.
"Good afternoon." She said carefully.
"Yo." Replied the other girl with a nonchalant smile.
"I beg your pardon but I'm quite sure I don't know what a 'yo' is." Alice replied.
The older girl laughed.
"It's a greeting!" She beamed.
"Oh." Alice frowned thoughtfully. Carefully she studied the darker tan of the other girl's skin and made a casual guess. "Is it Indian?"
The other girl smiled mischievously, her violet eyes twinkling.
"No," She whispered. "It's ninja talk."
"Oh." Alice remarked once more. "I'm quite sure I don't know what a ninja is but, ah, well it sounds impressive."
"It is." Remarked the older girl knowingly.
"And does it have good prospects?" Asked Alice, floundering slightly as the conversation became every bit as quizzical as those she had attempted with the residents of the Queen's court.
She smiled awkwardly and curtseyed once more, before stepping cautiously away, though before she could quite break away she felt the brush of the older girl's hand upon her arm.
"If you like, I could show you how to be a ninja." She smiled. "I am, after all, the Great Ninja Yuffie."
Alice blushed and found herself increasingly of the opinion that to be a ninja was to be terribly improper.
"And...ah, what exactly is the primary convention of employment as a ninja?" She asked.
"Surprise." Yuffie whispered, and kissed her on the cheek.
