Title: In the Blood
Word Count: 317
Spoilers: For KH2 (and PotC; Curse of the Black Pearl)
Rating/Warnings: PG-13 for some swearing
Notes: Will doesn’t know how to sail- and the others aren’t much help.

dusknobody* Thank you for multiple beta readings and pushing me to get the wording right. I’m happier with this version too!
'Get us underway,' Jack had said. 'Piracy is in your blood,' he had said. 'Even a child could sail this ship!' he had said- pointing at Sora.
As far as Will was concerned, Sora had an unfair advantage- growing up on an island.
He conveniently ignored the fact that Port Royal was also an island.
'Pirate blood' his arse.
Will's knowledge of ships was limited to where he could stand and be out of everyone else's way as they went about their tasks. The last time he'd been on a ship, he'd been ten. He didn't know whether his father was who Jack said he was, but he sure as hellfire did not believe piracy was something that one inherited.
If it were- the ship would be moving.
Still- he had to do this. For Elizabeth. He would ask for help.
But not from Sparrow.
"Well, g'awrsh," the knight said good-naturedly, "I just do what Donald tells me to! He was a sailor before he started ta' study magic."
Will nodded, smiled weakly at Goofy, and allowed Donald to drag him back to the mainbrace.
Donald was indeed- quite knowledgeable, and quite generous with his information. He immediately began explaining what to do.
It didn't help.
"You push thish ohver to thish shide- the ropesh go shidewaysh and the left hangsh diagonally from the shtarboard-"
Sora caught Will's dumbfounded expression, "Donald, I think you're getting too technical."
He appreciated the lad's concern, but that didn't help either.
Eventually Jack wandered over and stood there, watching Donald instruct them and quite seriously nodding at everything the magician said.
"-knot it twiche there and that'sh it!"
The Captain nodded decisively as Donald finished, then smirked at Will. "Savvy?"
The one advantage to Jack's assumption about his lineage was that when he finally snapped and punched Sparrow in the face, he could blame it on the piracy in his blood.

Date: 2007-06-06 04:00 am (UTC)I considered the idea that he'd have trouble with a ship as opposed to his own personal dingy, buuuuuuuut~ I just had to twist the knife for Will.
Thanks!
