Challenge: [119] Hide and Seek
Title: The Madman's Calm
Word Count: 303
Spoilers: Pre-KH1, Xehanort before he goes diving off the deep end of the pool. I tried something a little different and wrote as someone would in a stream of consciousness.
Seek and you will find. Hide and you will be lost.
When did that thought occur? It wasn't his, or maybe it was?
In any event it was becoming harder to draw the boundary of what could have been his personal thoughts and what wasn't. But sooner or later everything would merge together and become obvious, right?
It has to. Games of cat and mouse end long before both die.
The scratch of pen to paper was the only physical noise that Xehanort heard in the quiet parlour.
He never counted the voice that echoed in the back of his mind anymore. Not that the young man discounted the new existence that had appeared one day. The voice spoke differently, thought differently, and was in effect different from him.
Eyes that looked out of his own perhaps? Was there another person inside of him? That reasoning could explain the shift in his studies.
Chasers. The Keyblade War. The probability that a person wasn't just a single entity but composed of multiple layers that--
Hiding from yourself is impossible. Seeking the truth is the only thing that matters.
Of course, that was right. Brilliant, brilliant findings. That was all that mattered. Xehanort wouldn't tell the others yet. He wanted conclusive proof with his work before developing a solid hypothesis to present. If anyone asked what led him to this offshoot in his research, Xehanort could declare that "something inside compelled me." Not an obvious lie, just a hint at the truth.
Perhaps he should study the voice in his head further?
Nonsense, and Xehanort couldn't figure if that was his own voice or the new one that spoke, that can wait until later, after I find what I need to know. Only a matter of time that I find what I seek.
But was that him laughing or just his mind?
