Challenge [136]
Feb. 15th, 2008 06:33 amChallenge [136] Endurance
Title: Building Strength
Word Count: 238
Notes: No spoilers here, first-game centric.
It was tiring to keep up at first, always running and fighting and trying to simply stay alive. Donald never yelled at him for falling behind—well, not that much at least and after a few times and lectures from Goofy, he was more silent about it.
It was difficult to not collapse in the middle of the fight, when sweat stung his eyes and his arms felt too heavy to swing the Keyblade. It was hard running to the next destination and the next swarm of Heartless. The thought of saving his friends and the people he met kept him going.
It was hard for a young boy to fight as he did, to look past carefree days where running meant a contest with Riku on the beach, where fighting was swinging a sword made out of wood and no one got hurt. He pushed past that and kept those happy memories to keep him going, to keep up with Donald and Goofy and the others along the way. They could do it, why couldn't he? People were depending on him.
Slowly--slowly, even when his mind was numb from exhaustion and he fell into whatever bed they could find for the night, his endurance built up until he was running first into the fray, swinging the Keyblade and making sure that he could do it – could rescue Riku and Kairi and then go home again.
