title: The Waiting Game (second Entry)
challenge: under appreciated characters
word count: 317
notes: because I woke up almost late for work and this hit me in the head HARD.
She was waiting on him, this was nothing new. She had been waiting for him since before he was even really in the world. She waited on him in the mornings, to make sure he had everything together for school or for play; she waited for him in the afternoons to make sure he ate.
She waited for him the night of the storm; because even though he was fourteen he still had bad dreams. But that night, that night she was left waiting.
He wasn't the only one missing, and it calmed the worry in her heart; "at least he's with friends," she reasoned as she washed dishes and watched the open sea through her window.
Now she was waiting for him to return.
She folded his laundry, straightened up his room and every evening she set another place at the kitchen table, "he'll be hungry when he comes home," she whispered to herself, "children never eat as well as they should when mothers aren't around."
Time passed, the waiting did not. It had been months now, waiting for so long she could no longer remember life before, she was beginning to forget the little things; the sound of his shoes up the stairwell, his laughter floating behind it.
She was sweeping off the porch, although it wasn't really necessary as no feet but her own had passed this way, when it happened. Not the tell-tale miracle she'd been silently praying for, but pretty damn close.
Kairi, one of his friends; one of the missing, came pounding down the road breathing hard. She stopped infront of her, "H-he's alright." She managed on a gasp, "but he can't come home yet."
With her heart feeling lighter than it probably ever had, she smiled down at the younger girl. "Would you like to come in Kairi, for some juice?"
And together, the two most important women in Sora's life, continued waiting. ~*~
this wasn't the original second entry I was going to post, originally it was going to be about Beast but then the thought of Mom just latched onto my brain screaming "aren't I the most UNDERAPPRECIATED character??? I gave birth to him for Pete's sake!!"

Date: 2008-03-01 09:18 pm (UTC)Second, I think you meant to say "Children never eat as well as they should". It's just one of those little things that would be perfectly in-character for a kid, but it sounds weird coming from an adult.
Third-- Lovely.

Date: 2008-03-02 03:22 am (UTC)I changed it, I was writing in a hurry before work so I didn't get the chance to check all the tiny grammatical errors, thanks for the catch though!
I'm glad you like it :P This one really wrote itself
