Challenge: [142] Destiny
Title: Star-Crossed Something-Or-Others
Word Count: 320
Spoilers: Slight for CoM and KH2
Rating/Warnings: PG, none really
Notes: Axel has kidnapped Kairi. He likes to hear himself talk.
"It's your own fault, yanno."
The girl looked up from her study of the uneven ground, eyes wide and- ah-hah, that might have been a hint of anger.
"What?" She tripped over something. He grabbed her arm, dragged her upward and let go so quickly she almost fell against him.
"Careful there," he mocked. "Gotta watch where you're walking." She jerked away, but didn't try to run. She'd learned earlier that it didn't really work. Axel raised his eyebrows and started walking again. "I mean really, living in a place called Destiny Islands? You were asking for this kind of thing to happen."
She laughed, low and fake. He could tell. He had lots of experience with fake.
"Oh yeah," she muttered. "That's right. I asked to be kidnapped- I asked for my friends to go off and run around other worlds- I-"
"Tsk tsk, Kairi. You can't wallow in self-pity like that. It'll keep you from moving on with your life." He thought he could hear her growling back there. He might have liked her if... yanno. It was a shame, really.
"You do believe in destiny, right?"
She went silent, the only sound the crunch of their shoes over fallen leaves.
"Yes," she decided. "I do."
"Yeah," Axel returned. "So do I." He paused to choose the next path, caught the surprise in her expression. "I mean- I don't honestly think surviving a Heartless invasion," he kept walking, "meeting Roxas, surviving Castle Oblivion, and evading the Organization this long has been luck."
"No gloating about how it was skill?"
He grinned. "Pride's an emotion."
Kairi looked at him, sighed wearily and shook her head. She moved past him, trudging along the path. "Does this destiny of yours involve getting a Keyblade shoved up your butt?" she asked over her shoulder. "I'd call that luck."
Axel stared, decided to chuckle. No doubt about it.
He would have liked her.

Date: 2008-04-01 04:38 am (UTC)I gotta say, AxelKairi is my favorite not-true-but-I-wish-it-was ship. And you've pretty much summed up all the reasons why. Luvly. You have their personalities just right.

Date: 2008-04-03 09:06 pm (UTC)Kairi has enough backbone not to give in to him and Axel has enough um... decency? to back off at times. ;p I like the idea of their antagonism and I must say that just about every fandom has two attractive redheads that would make an interesting couple.
Key word there is interesting.
Thanks!

He grinned. "Pride's an emotion." I love how he says that, but it's very sad. ^^

Date: 2008-04-05 08:13 pm (UTC)His interaction with Kairi was one of my favorite parts of the game, mostly because I saw so much more of his COM personality in those scenes. Selfish, sly, and a little mysterious.
Very nicely done.
