Challenge: [159] In Another Life
Title: In Our Mind

Notes: from unfinished fanfic-idea land, where Sora and Kairi eventually become king and queen of Radiant Garden and have a kid who was supposed to be twins, but instead is just one boy with both Namine and Roxas' personalities in him. There's a lot more to this thing, from before he's even born, but whatever.



This is a bad idea... Namine thinks, voice hesitant.

Roxas thinks back Oh, hush. I hate being cooped up in the castle, and I told that guy that I'd come visit him to play again.

Namine's voice gives a gentle sigh. I'm sure if you asked, you could leave without the sneaking around.

But he is thirteen years old, and replies, sounding confused That's boring.

Unfortunately, the prince feels a sharp tug at his cloak. The Knight gives him a skeptical look.

"And where do you think you're going?" Riku asks the boy.

His mind races, and he feels Namine taking control. Tell him we're going to ask permission to leave, Roxas rushes to think to her, but hears the words "I was sneaking out." Namine can practically hear his internal sneer, but forces herself to stay in control regardless.

The knight sighs. "Sekai, why don't you just ask your parents? I really doubt Sora or Kairi would have a problem with this."

Roxas thinks, bitterly, You're awfully familiar for a simple knight.

Namine repremands him with a quiet They've been friends for a long time, Roxas. Riku isn't just a knight, he's the head knight - and you know that he's behind almost all of the King's decisions.

Roxas can't miss the fondness in her voice, at both Riku's name, and Sora's title. Namine's guard is down, and he says quickly and dismissively "Just tell them I'm going out," he says to the older man.

Riku brushes his hair out of his eyes for a moment, but it falls right back when he nods. "As long as you're back by Eight. The Restoration Committee is coming for dinner."

Sekai nods, disinterested.

Riku sighs, and ruffles the boy's hair. "Have fun with your friend," he says.

Sekai pulls away and dashes off without a reply. He wonders how Riku knows about Axel, but shrugs it off as he jumps the castle's gate. He remembers jumping over locked-gates to mansions with children he has never known in this life. These hazy dream-likes memories of these children is different from Axel.
