Theme: [174] Before
Title: Darkness There and Nothing More
Word Count: 546
Notes: Title from the Edgar Allen Poe poem, “The Raven”. Some spoilers for Birth Before Sleep, in a way…

“No, it can’t be…no…”

His master laid dead, his energy completely drained, on the dusty ground not too far away from him. Pain shooting through his body, he tried his best to crawl towards the man who had been his mentor, who had taught him all he knew… (oh but he was so disappointed that i couldn’t do a thing yes)

A shadow stepped in front of him, blocking his view of his dead master. Gritting his teeth, he looked up with malicious rage at the one who had defeated him, the one they called Terra.

“And where do you think you’re going?” The figure asked, towering over him like a shadowy giant, pointing a particularly large Keyblade at his throat. Growling in fury, he tried to stand up and fight, but another spasm of pain trembled through him and he fell back on the hard ground. (stupid weak mortal body why can’t i do anything) The giant stooped down, and, despite his protests, removed his mask.

(the light it burns my skin why put my mask back on please) He cried out in pain; his eyes, which were so used to the eternal darkness, saw their first glimmer of light, but he hated it. He hated the feeling of light, of burning, deadly, never-ending light.

He heard a gasp from behind him, and a woman’s voice exclaimed, “He’s so young, he’s almost the same age as Ven, why would…” But the voice was silenced, and he shut his eyes, as if it would make the light go away. His Keyblade…whether it was because he had no more energy or his heart had considerably weakened, it refused to come to his hands.

“I say that we end the life of this miserable creature. His master was the first to go, and now-!” He clenched his fists, expecting the last stroke of that Keyblade, the same one which had defeated his master, to finish him off… (let me at least die than spend anymore time in this dreadful light) And then all became black, and he was happy at last…

Terra stepped away from the unconscious apprentice, who looked almost peaceful in the sunlight; a serene smile was sitting upon his face, which completely contrasted with the dark suit he wore. He had wanted to finish the monster off, but Aqua had given him a pleading look, saying, “I’ll make him forget, and then he won’t harm us anymore. He’ll learn to fight the darkness…” and he had relented.

While Aqua began erasing the memories of the apprentice, Terra looked at the lifeless Master Xehanort with scorn and malice. Because of him, Ven was gone, and everything was ruined, everything! Without Aqua supporting him, he felt that he would’ve become insane, forever mourning the loss of his friend.

Hearing some steps behind him, he turned around and saw Aqua supporting the now revived apprentice on her shoulder. Terra stepped up to them, and the apprentice turned his blank yellow eyes to him with a childish smile on his face, his long silver hair swaying in the breeze. Repressing the feeling that something bad would happen because they had spared this…this creature that didn’t deserve to live, Terra nevertheless smiled back and said:

“Welcome to the world, Xehanort.”
