Title: A Pleasant Surprise
Notes: Uhhhhhh I just woke up like half an hour ago, sorry if it sucks, drabbling's not really my forte because I tend to ramble. Also, first drabble here.
He recalls first meeting them again. He's fourteen, and it's the girl that notices him first; she smiles and shakes her head, offering him a sweet just as she had every other child that had flocked to the heroes. He doesn't take it, but she doesn't seem to mind.
The shorter boy notices when the girl moves and looks surprised. He's not really a boy anymore, but that's all he'll ever look like to him, even after everything. It surprises him when instead of the actions he expected, there's another smile, and with this one, a laugh.
It's the third that worries him the most, he admits to himself. The tall boy- man, he corrects himself, because the second has grown in ways the first male hasn't- is the last to notice. He expects everything from sneers to an attack; but all he gets is a look-over, a quiet 'tch', and the faintest hint of an amusement.
He leaves.
Riku catches up with him that evening out by the castle. They sit in silence past the sunset and late into the night before one of them speaks.
"What do you want to be when you grow up?"
The question throws him off-guard, but he mulls over it quietly. It's an innocent question with a thousand more behind it.
"An architect."
More silence comes after his reply, until finally the man stands, putting a hand on his head. It feels heavy, and he looks up, surprised to see a smile on the too-weathered face.
"I think you'll be okay this time around, Xehanort."
And then he's gone.
