Challenge: Masquerade
Title: Tonight
Word Count: 376
Notes: One-sided RS. Enjoy.
Tonight we lose our faces, in a deep dark fantasy where everybody knows everybody, yet we know no one at all.
Tonight is the night, we will lose ourselves in the music. We will find ourselves searching for a rhythm, only to dance with another. Another we do not recognize.
Tonight, you will not see me. For though I have realized that we share the same eyes, I can never be her. You will never feel the same emotion for me as you do her. After coming to this conclusion, I will blend with your surroundings, watch as you will mindlessly spot her through the crowd.
She will be wearing a white gown. Her short hair and radiant blue eyes will enchant you through her matching white mask. You will walk carelessly to her, bowing as a gentleman. I can already hear your words.
"Care to dance?" you will say, not seeing her, feeling her all around you. She will smile and take your hand, and the two of you will innocently waltz around the ballroom.
Onlookers will laugh together and speak of how beautiful you two are, the perfection within your dance. I will stand against the wall, watching intently on your every movement. Noting how you smile, feeling her in your arms.
Tonight, tonight could be the night.
Perhaps I will lose self control, and I will find a way to you, through the crowd of millions, all a part of this masquerade. Somehow I will find you through this madness.
Say, perchance, I approach you and sweep you away. Tonight, I could possibly take you gracefully across the dance floor. Perhaps the onlookers will stare at us, whispering to themselves and eachother in disgust and unacceptance, while your expression is still in shock.
Perhaps there is a possibility that you will smile.
Perhaps, tonight, you will be able to forget about her and love me. Love me, even if it is only because I am hiding behind a mask. I will know you, and I will love you. You will only know a mask, and I can only wish you will fall in love with it, if not the one behind it. If only for tonight, it is all I can hope for.
