Challenge: Masquerade
Title: What's in a name?
Word: 221
Note: Alice in Wonderland the way it shoulda been. Like, not ANNOYING. O_o
Dizzied, confused, they spun around the circle, each following the other's lead, trying to find the beginning of the dance and the entrance, the exit, the end. But it went on forever--will you, won't you, will you, won't you-- and their heads were turning circles too, memories all mixed up, masses of confusion.
They wouldn't remember they were traveling together, later.
He wouldn't remember that she'd still /had/ her heart; only that it had been taken and she was so terribly cold, and he didn't know how to save her.
"Who are you?" He asked politely, when the dance stopped and they were holding each other, her giggling so warm that he smiled.
"I'm Hari," she said. "Hari Zen. But if you say it like this, hah-rai-zen...see?"
And she was so clever that he laughed, held her tight, and told her that was beautiful, even if he didn't think it was the right name. "And you?" She asked innocently. "What's your name?"
"...Sora," he lied, flat out. "Like the sky."
"Oh, your hair is cloud-colored, too!" She giggled. "It's like puffs of dreams!"
The dance began again, and they were spun away from each other, still laughing, her voice caroling bells in his mind: puffs of dreams, puffs of dreams, puffs of dreams.
He couldn't recall his real name anymore, anymore.

Date: 2005-05-22 04:11 am (UTC)This was amazing. <3. I love how absolutely mad it is -- insanity is a fun theme to play around with -- and that's exactly how Wonderland should be.
The entire piece is dreamlike, and I love that last echo at the end. It sounds sort of... lost, and confused, and it just fits so perfectly. It clicks right into the endless, repetitive dance. It's like a dream that never ends.
... OKAY THAT WAS A LOT OF BABBLE, but seriously, those were some gorgeous 221 words. <333.
