Challenge: [200] All You Did (was Save My Life)
Title: Sorry She Could Not Travel Both
Author: Miss Kass
Word Count: 424
Rating: PG
Spoilers: None~
Notes: I took some ideas from Robert Frost's "The Road Not Taken", as well as managed to confuse the hell out of myself while writing this. I sincerely hope this turns out to make sense. xD
Also I am able to edit out the formatting, or edit it to be more friendly to people's eyes, I just thought this would be the best way to express the ideas of the drabble. I'm incredibly sorry if it turns out that it's not.
---
Some say that as one life ends another begins.
A baby born, screaming, blonde hair thin against her scalp.
A woman fades, screaming. Black wafts of darkness weigh down her once vibrant blonde hair.
Her arms flail, but she never reaches what she doesn't know she's looking for.
Her first thoughts of the world aren't thoughts at all, merely a shiver running through her small body. It is cold.
Some say life is just a road to walk.
She steps into the road, street lamps not enough to illuminate her. It is not long, or of particular note, just one more road she feels she must walk.
Squealing tyres are too late to warn her, the truck has already hit.
She tries so hard to move, to escape, but she is dizzy, covered in blood, losing consciousness.
She cannot stand, can walk no longer. She wishes she had reached the end of her road.
She is on her feet again, running so fast. The end of her road is so close, so close.
Some say that it is the people we meet who shape our lives, even if they cannot be our saviours.
He smiles kindly. He takes her hand as she gasps her last breaths, her name on her lips, tears streaming down her battered cheeks.
"It'll be okay."
"Lenare, you're going to a better place."
Life is none and all of these things. But we must make of it what we can, for that makes all the difference.

A baby born, screaming, blonde hair thin against her scalp.
A woman fades, screaming. Black wafts of darkness weigh down her once vibrant blonde hair.
Her arms flail, but she never reaches what she doesn't know she's looking for.
She sinks to the ground and still gropes fervently for what she seeks, but even though she knows she's searching, she doesn't know what for.
Her first thoughts of the world aren't thoughts at all, merely a shiver running through her small body. It is cold.
Her last thoughts, like her first, are not quite thoughts at all, pain overcoming her as she shivers her way into oblivion. It is cold.
She steps into the road, street lamps not enough to illuminate her. It is not long, or of particular note, just one more road she feels she must walk.
The road she stands upon is not the one most travelled by, nor the one most enticing to the eye, but it is her road now, until she has walked its length.
Squealing tyres are too late to warn her, the truck has already hit.
Screeching creatures surround her, engulfing her, their attacks draining what little is left of her strength.
She tries so hard to move, to escape, but she is dizzy, covered in blood, losing consciousness.
She tries so hard to move and she finds that the creatures yield beneath her touch, shifting like shadows as she pushes her fingers through them.
She cannot stand, can walk no longer. She wishes she had reached the end of her road.
She is on her feet again, running so fast. The end of her road is so close, so close.
He smiles kindly. He takes her hand as she gasps her last breaths, her name on her lips, tears streaming down her battered cheeks.
His presence shocks her to a halt, and a moment later he brings a gloved hand up to caress her face. She breathes deeply; he runs his thumb over her cheek as though to wipe away a nonexistent tear.
"It'll be okay."
"It will be okay."
"Lenare, you're going to a better place."
"Larxene. A new name. A new life."
