...and because it's for a good cause, have another!
Challenge: [215] Begin at the End
Title: Afterlife
Word Count: 263
Spoilers: Some for BBS and Days.
Summary: Two old friends meet in the next life.
“When I pictured the afterlife,” a voice drawled from behind him, “This isn’t quite what I had in mind.”
He paused and turned, the (un)familiar face bringing something to his lips that was less the calm smile of yesterday and more the simple baring of teeth.
“We’re not dead.” he replied.
“True, true.” The shadows stir as the man there steps out, and he can hear that the old mocking tone at least refused to die with everything else. “No hearts, they say. Sounds like something from a story book, right?”
He could have commented on how there was always more to life- to anything- than the surface, but that would have been too obvious. Instead, he said, “So they’ve spoken to you then?”
“Spoken to, spoken at.” A dismissive hand gesture. “They told me a lot of things.” Green eyes sparked. A smirk crawled over thin lips. “Seems you rank higher than me.”
He let out a noise that was too harsh to truly be a laugh. “Well, I did arrive first.”
His almost laugh was echoed- albeit more convincingly- by the other man. “And to think I screamed out for you when I saw you being dragged down by those creatures. Seems you did pretty well out of it, wouldn’t you say, Isa?”
Teeth were bared in another would-be smile. “I believe that would be Saïx now.”
“Oh, so you got the new name talk too?” The smirk widened as the man gestured to himself, and Saïx wondered if so much had really changed after all. “Axel. Commit it to memory.”
