Challenge: [223] The City
Title: Resurrection
Word Count: 117
Characters: Aerith
Rating: K
Hollow Bastion is a crooked silhouette of so many stone walls, and the heartless make murky puddles on the horizon. Aerith's hands were not built for wielding blades or pulling triggers, so Aerith fights shadows with light, nursing flowers to life despite inhospitable ground.
She trembles when petals wilt, because if they are doomed here then so is she. Hearts cannot survive in darkness, and cities are meant to harbor life.
This isn't so much a city as it is a last resort, and trying again is like going to a dry well for water. But she does try again; she tries again after every complacent death. Aerith wants to believe there is light here.
