Challenge 233: Cold Comfort

Title: Cold Comfort
Word Count: 254
Spoilers: Slight 358/2 and BBS concerning two characters and their relationship.
Notes: These two seem to be invading everything I write now. Hopefully this is a good thing!
When Lea awakes to be told that he isn’t Lea any more, he’s relieved to find that at least Isa is unchanged. Sure, they might insist that his name is Saïx now, just as they tell him his is Axel, and yeah, maybe they don’t have hearts now, but the point is he’s essentially still Isa.
Right?
Still the same pale face with the too-serious expression, the same blue hair, same quiet demeanour and calm putdowns in response to his ramblings. So- still Isa. Still his best friend in amongst all the insanity and the ohgodwhycan’tIfeel of this new beginning. That’s as much as a comfort as anything can be to him now.
This comfort may as well be what keeps him going in those early days of adjustment and it lasts about a week, right up until the moment he sees Isa- Saïx- react to killing his first Heartless in a training exercise. All of a sudden his teeth are bared in a wild snarl and his eyes are alight with something so entirely un-Isa that Lea- Axel- could have sworn he felt a chill run through him if feeling had only been possible.
The moment is over almost as soon as it arrives, and when he turns to face him, his face belongs to Isa again. Almost.
The comfort he draws from Isa lasts no more than seven or eight days into his new existence. It flickers at dies in that one instance, even though he will spend years telling himself otherwise.
