Title: Private Pleasures
Word Count: 588
Notes: I wish I could revise this a bit more, but oh well. This is something I’d really like to see happen. Wouldn't you?
It was a shame to just leave the book lying there. That was what Leon thought the first time he opened Pooh’s book. He knew all about the 100 Acre Woods and its colorful characters from Sora. But it had never occurred to either him or the others to see it for themselves.
One evening, after a hard day’s work, he found himself all by himself in Merlin’s house. Merlin was out for the night and the others had already headed home to get some sleep. He spotted the book in the corner, just lying there, and in a rare moment of curiosity wondered why they never bothered to see it for themselves. Secure in the knowledge that he was alone, he decided to explore the book himself. He planned to be gone for a few minutes. He ended up staying for hours.
After that day he’d jump into the book every chance he got. He found the 100 Acre Woods to be relaxing and the characters inside easy to get along with. He would swap stories with Eeyore (he admired the donkey’s perseverance and sympathized with his constant lack of a home), help Piglet conquer his multitude of fears, drink tea with Kanga and Roo, and protect Rabbit’s garden from the destructive force that was Tigger.
He knew the others would probably laugh at him. If only they could see how their leader, the fearless Leonhart, valiantly defended the bamboozled Pooh Bear from droves of angry bees in his never-ending quest for honey.
He thought that perhaps the reason he liked the world so much was because it was so unlike his own. When he was in the 100 Acre woods he wasn’t Leon, the man in charge of rebuilding and defending their broken home. He was Leon, the guy who fought off bees and had conversations with woodland animals. It was a nice break from fighting off savage heartless and negotiating defensive tactics with the Restoration Committee.
“What do you think we should do with this old book?” Yuffie mused one day while juggling the book in her hands.
“Why do anything?” Leon tried not to let his true feelings show. He was good at that. “It’s just as safe here as anywhere else.”
“Yeah but it just kind of sits there all day. Why don’t we try sending it to Sora? I’m sure he’d read it all the time.”
“Tell me where to find the time and resources to fly an old book to another world and we’ll talk.”
“You’re right. That’d just be a waste of time.” Yuffie grins. “How is old Pooh Bear these days?”
“He’s fine.” Leon blinks. The words were out before he even realized it. Without meaning to he had let down his guard and revealed something personal. He must be slipping.
“Ha!” Yuffie cheered. “I knew you’ve been exploring Pooh’s book!” Leon considers lying to her, acting like he misunderstood her, or passing it all off as ‘diplomatic relations’ but he knew it would be pointless. Yuffie knew his secret and nothing could change that. Leon places his head in his hand and sighs.
“What’ll it take to keep you quiet?” He asks.
“Ice cream!” She responds instantly. “Lots and lots of ice cream!”
“So be it.” His trips to the 100 Acre Woods were his private pleasures, the only thing he really looked forward to these days. If a lifetime of buying Yuffie ice cream was the price for keeping it that way, he would gladly pay it.
