Challenge: [28] Odd pairings.
Title: Smile Like You Mean It.
Word count: 353.
Notes: This pairing scares me. I mean it. It's... Leon x the-guy-who-looks-like-Tidus-in-Traverse-Town. ... Yeah. I'm kind of shocked at how long it came to be, considering that this is the weirdest pairing I could think of.
...
I really wish this guy had a name. Oh well. On with zee drabble.
He never smiled.
Leon saw him quite often. He simply... sat alone, near the mailbox, doing absolutely nothing. Sometimes the man would stare at him, his torn clothes and ragged hair. And the boy would only stare in return as he passed.
It kind of made him feel uneasy. Leon, that is. On one particular day, the tall brunette had caught the boy from the corner of his eye, sleeping. It had been the first time the man had ever witnessed it, the boy sleeping, rather than staring at passerby's, staring at the sky.
Staring at him, rather.
It wasn't as if Leon was intimidated by him. No, that wasn't quite it. It was just something about him, about his stare. It was so... empty. So incomplete. There was something missing in him.
On another day, the boy had been awake, but didn't seem to notice the tall man as he passed. Leon ran his errands only to return to the boy who wasn't paying any attention to him.
"Do you ever leave that spot?" Straight out and forward, that was how Leon was. Eyes fell from the sky to stare at him, and Leon felt something tighten in his stomach. There they were, those eyes again. Empty, gray, intimidating.
He only received a stare in return.
Days and days, and all the boy did was stare at the brunette. It bothered him. Leon wanted to do something for him... he wanted to...
He wanted to see him smile.
"Come with me," Leon had appeared before the younger man, his deep voice calm and collected as always, "you can clean up and get some new clothes."
Something glimmered in his eye, if not for only one moment, and he obeyed.
"What's your name?" his voice was timid, as if afraid to speak.
"Leon." He replied cooly. "By the way, I think I have a place for you to stay."
He thought he saw it from the corner of his eye. Perhaps it was his imagination, or a common trick of lighting, but...
"Thank you."
...he could have sworn he saw the boy smile.
