Challenge: [279] Fairy Tale
Word Count: 576
Other: ... wow, this was actually pretty fun.
Once upon a time…
That was how all the stories started, every night. Once upon a time. Each member told different stories, but they all began with that same phrase.
Xemnas told serious stories, about the conflict between light and darkness and possibly morality. Once upon a time, in a land far, far away, there was a world of science and magic where darkness reigned supreme…
Xigbar told parodies and stories that would make her laugh, having decided long ago that she was far too serious for his liking. Once upon a time, in a land far, far Hawaii, there was… a chicken.
Xaldin told cautionary tales, warning her not to let herself get attached to anything for fear it would break her. Once upon a time, there was a foolish little girl…
Vexen (after she’d worked up the courage to ask) told educational tales about the magical world of science; she never told him that she actually got far more use from the others’ more fanciful stories. Once upon a time, Mr. Blood Vessel and his companion, the Jolly Little Platelet…
Lexaeus told old fables from his world that always ended with a moral, his way of teaching her things he felt she needed to know. Once upon a time, a set of animals thought perhaps it would be a good idea to play with things they did not understand.
Zexion told strange, twisted stories full of detail and intrigue that she could barely follow. Once upon a time, the princess of a faraway kingdom was trapped in a land across the three mountains of Id…
Saïx told the worst stories, violent tales of bloodshed that always ended with a threat to her well-being if she didn’t get to sleep. Once upon a time, there was a young man who wandered off the path in the woods…
Axel told fanciful fairy tales, stories about magic and fantastic beasts. She always hoped he’d draw the short straw and be assigned to guard duty that night. Once upon a time, in a land far, far away, there was a beautiful dragon-girl…
Demyx told her about the creatures he swore he’d seen in his past life, and when he tired of that simply sang until she fell asleep. His stories always had a happy ending. Once upon a time, there was a griffin who lived in a deep, spooky forest…
Luxord told stories about unexpected heroes, rogues and con-men and the like, but only after she’d won them from him in a game. Once upon a time, in a prison far, far away, a man was contemplating escape.
Marluxia told tales of brave heroes and evil witches, always subtly warning her about what would happen if they tired of her. Once upon a time, a hideous witch was jealous of her beautiful step-daughter…
Larxene told mocking, spiteful fairy tales that always had an unexpected twist at the end, never for the better. Happy endings didn’t exist when Larxene told the stories, or in real life, she always said. Once upon a time, in a land far, far away, there was a pretty little princess…
Naminé wrote her own stories, sometimes, and drew the pictures to accompany them. Just in case the others ever ran out of stories, although she didn’t want to know what would happen to her if they did.
Once upon a time, in an abandoned land of Nothing, the entire world was about to change…
