Dec. 2nd, 2004 02:20 amTitle: Escape
Challenge: Beginnings
Word Count: 303
Warnings: Uhm.. Might be a little confusing? T-T;;
Scriiiiitch. Scritchscritchscritchscritchscriiiiitch. Thunk.
First, there's a thin chalk line, left to right, straying to crooked in the middle. A stick figure is added, one leg drawn past the line, the other floating a few millimeters above it, with crossed eyes, and no mouth.
Now there's an entity.
Slightly chapped lips purse in concentration, pale eyebrows drawing together as a small hand works the soft stone across the surface he has chosen as his canvas today.
Sora and Kairi would never dare to touch this canvas, no. Though it has never shown them anything to fear, something about it has always... purposely escaped their attention. Towering high above his silver head, its surface is as blank as the vast expanse of sand after a particularly windy day. Unmarred. Perfect.
Riku knows better. He knows, he waits, and watches... always watches, always glances back, just to see if it has appeared again.
"Did you see it?" Riku had asked one day whilst his best friend dirtied himself to build a sandcastle.
"See what?"
Curious blue eyes, completely oblivious.
So here Riku was, huddled in the shadows, clutching his paintbrush and regarding his new canvas with a determined façade. Oh yes, even though the many abstract drawings on the walls could not hear his skittering heart, he could. Chalk eyes and crooked faces smile at him from their gray frames as he slowly pulls his hand away from the unspoken untouchable.
Will he see it again, today?
He moves forward, slightly pink cheek pressing against the cool, cool wood of the secret door in the secret place beyond the secret passageway. His small hand flairs out as he pushes that too against the surface, running it up, almost lovingly. His new drawing smears, but he does not care.
Green eyes flutter closed, and he breathes.
"Mine."
