title Somehow
word count 253
notes meh...it ran away five hundred miles ahead of me...
There was something in the air, something that had changed in years of absense. He didn't know what it was. Everything looked nearly identical to the way it had when he was fourteen. True, the colors seemed dingy and faded... Yes, the ocean wasn't as loud as it seemed in memory.
But still... There was something terribly off.
The sound of laughing children was missing. The unmistakable ring of toy weapons clashing against each other was not present.
She was not here.
Had he truly been gone that long? He felt older, true, his body felt tired and weary. And now all he really wanted was to rest, rest in her arms.
But she was no where to be found.
He couldn't find his voice to call for her, somewhere deep inside he knew the dreadful truth.
And so, Sora began walking.
Somehow, he knew where he was going. Somehow, this hurt more than having creatures of darkness cling to his heart.
It was there, just as he somehow knew it would be. A solitary grave on top a hill, laying underneath a beautiful willow tree.
He didn't even need to read it, his mouth formed the words he somehow knew were there in silent reproach.
'Kairi, beloved friend.'
Sora took out a tiny charm from his pocket. He lay it on the headstone carefully. A promise from long ago, finally fulfilled.
Too tired for words or tears, he curled up next to the resting place of his sleeping princess.
Somehow, without words or good-bye, he knew this was end of his journey.
Edit on July 22, I didn't like the way some things were worded.
