Mar. 16th, 2006 11:36 amTitle: Return
Characters: Aeris, Riku, Sora
Word count: 347
Rating: worksafe
Summary: Sora wonders where Cloud went. Spoilers for KH2
Notes: My Great-grandfather (mother's grandfather) passed away late last night/early this morning. Dedication is to him.
Note 2: Deeply sorry about the icon and sorry to those who saw it, it was an honest dumb mistake.
"C'mon Riku! Hurry up!"
Riku chuckled as he ran after Sora. "Sora... we have all the time in the world. Slow down."
"There's so many people I want you to meet!" Sora turned around, running backwards as he grinned at his best friend.
"We don't need to rush. They'll still be there." Riku caught up, jogging alongside.
Sora just beamed at him, twisting on his heel and back around. "Hey look! There's Aeris! Hey~! Aeris~!"He picked up the pace, running as fast as he could towards her and skidded to a stop.
She smiled warmly at him. "Sora. Good to see you. Who's this?"
Sora looped an arm around Riku's waist pulling him close in a half-hug. "This is my best friend, Riku." He beamed.
"Ah! The one you were looking for?"
Sora beamed happily, nodding. "Yep! I found him. The stupid jerk didn't even bother to tell me he was alright."
Riku rolled his eyes at that one, smiling at Sora out of the corners of his mouth.
"Where's Cloud? I really want Riku to meet him."
Aeris sighed. "Cloud... He's not here."
"Where is he, then? The study?"
"Cloud... has returned to the Lifestream."
"Lifestream?" Sora's eyebrows furrowed in confusion. "What's the Lifestream?" He looked to Riku for a hint, but Riku just shrugged at him.
"The Lifestream..." Aeris paused a little. "All things are born of the Lifestream and all things return to it."
Two blank stares were her only reply.
"You've never heard of the Lifestream?"
Riku and Sora both shook their heads.
"Think of a river. It starts out small and flows toward the ocean becoming bigger and bigger until it joins with the sea--all composed of small droplets of water all working together. That's the Lifestream. Every living thing is made of Lifestream condensed and when they return to the Lifestream, they lose their physical bodies and merge with it."
Sora blinked at her for a moment, "so... Cloud's ...dead?"
Aeris shook her head almost fondly and smiled. "No. In the Lifestream, there's no such thing as dead. It's like going home after a long day."

Date: 2006-03-16 03:16 pm (UTC)I just didn't want to accidentally spoil anyone with the drabble and completely overlooked my icon. Deeeply sorry about about that.

Date: 2006-03-17 04:53 pm (UTC)The dialogue you write between Sora dn Riku is quite lovely. I especially enjoy Sora's great enthusiasm. I can see him doing just this, rushing around and wanting Riku to explore everything with him.
I like how Riku is a bit more reserved in comparison. I don't think anyone could have Sora's boundless energy in quite the same quanititied as he does. Also Riku would likely be a little ashamed of the way he had behaved previously.
Aeris's description of the Lifestream is quite lovely and I enjoy that you have transported it into the Kingdom hearts universe.
Nitpicking: The one thing I'd take issue with is the overuse of "beamed" and variations thereof. It is an excellent word descriptive of Sora's great joy and admiration for his friends, but I think you could find other words that work just as well for a bit of variety.

Date: 2006-03-17 05:13 pm (UTC)I think Riku and Sora compliment each other nicely. They each have their faults that are made up for in the other. Sora's simple; Riku's complex. I enjoyed writing about the Lifestream and I plan to use it a bit more.
