Challenge: 057 - Completion
Title: Three Parts of a Whole
Word Count: 402
Note: I still hate her thalassa-shell making guts. But, look, I bet you can't even tell in this drabble!
The island seemed so empty.
Sora couldn't hear anything more than the quiet scritch, scratch, sritch of the rock he was using to draw on the wall of the Secret Cave, a small, almost wistful smile on his face. Donald and Goofy were down by the beach with Kairi, he knew, waiting for him to be done here so they could continue their search for Riku and the king, but this had been nagging at Sora's mind for days weeks, months, years and he couldn't fly past Destiny Islands without just...
Scritch, sritch.
It used to be just him and Riku, together, always. From the moment Sora was born, Riku had been his best friend. Then had come in Selphie, but she was nowhere as close a friend to Sora as Riku was. She already had two best friends - Tidus and Wakka.
Then came Kairi, the finally part of the trinity what an ironic phrase that was to use now he wondered if Donald and Goofy would find it funny if he told them maybe not and she became the boys' best friend, always trying to accompany them on their adventures, but never quite being able.
Still, they never held it against her.
Sora couldn't quite remember when he and Riku began to vy for her attention was it when she made them both that necklace of thalassa shells and Riku threw Sora's away and then brought it back to him when Sora spent all night searching and searching but it had happened and now...
Scritch, scratch.
Sora slowly let the rock drop from his hand, smiling as he surveyed the picture. To the right, Kairi, smiling at him, his paopu fruit drawn towards her. To the left, Sora, smiling back, Kairi's paopu fruit drawn towards him.
And now, below the two paopu fruits, Riku, smiling at Sora, a paopu fruit extending from Sora to Riku. Almost complete.
"Sora!"
The keyblade master got to his feet, dusting off his hands and looking one last time at his picture before hurrying out of the cave to join his friends. It could never, never be truly complete until Riku was home this isn't home it can't be home not without Riku never, and Sora wouldn't rest until he brought him back.
In the shadows of the cave, a cloaked figure smiled, then slowly faded away into the darkness. Maybe someday, but not yet.
