Challenge: [63] Free Fall
Title: The Rest of Me
Word Count: 470
Spoilers: Only if you haven’t finished the Six Days of Roxas
Notes: So what was Namine doing when Roxas took his little fall? She's hijacked my brain- I swear she has. Hope you enjoy. ^^
She was with Roxas as he sat on the station tower.
Gliding through his mind, she pulled memories into a chain for Sora that night, sketching idly as she did so. There was no rhyme or reason to this particular sketch- just lines here and there. This picture would take shape when it chose… if it chose.
She flitted from memory to memory, sensing, as she did so, the quiet joy in him. Roxas had won the Struggle and divided the four crystals between his friends and himself. One more moment to cherish, to remember.
These days would never come again. It was wonderful- and got better as Olette presented her surprise.
Joy-pleasure-anticipation-fear-fear-
Namine gasped, eyes going wide as he started to fall. “No-”
She still clutched her pencil, strokes of lead going wider now, frantic, falling-
He was falling. She reached out, trying to hold him. If she could help him somehow- take away his fear-
Connection.
Namine felt… she could feel…
everything.
Roxas; the surrealistic slow motion of his extended fall- Namine reached out for him, trying desperately to keep him from hitting the ground somehow and somehow they weren’t alone anymore. Sora; in the back of Roxas’ mind, connected so lightly here and there that neither of them fully realized it. Somehow awake and listening and surprised, curious- joyful? Namine; her hand was still moving, casting lines on the sketchbook although she had no conscious control over what was taking shape on the page. She could feel it- feel Roxas and Sora, but only dimly now as someone else overtook her and she drowned. She’d never- she’d- what was this-
Warmth. Confusion, a tinge of fear. She wasn’t supposed to have emotions but she was having emotions and they weren’t hers, but they were.
“You’re that girl he likes…”
She was speaking- no she wasn’t- Namine could hear a voice that wasn’t hers as she fell, lost in the maelstrom provoked by five little words.
Elation, relief, desperation- a name, she needed to hear the name-
“…I’ll give you a hint- it starts with an ‘S’.”
Joy. Joy so strong it was painful. She knew that voice-
Namine gasped like a swimmer coming up for air, pushing away from the smooth, white floor. She fumbled for her connection to Roxas- everything had cut off so suddenly- was he-
She found him well, if confused, sitting in his room.
Namine climbed back to the table and her sketch pad, trembling- when had she left her chair? She drew her mind away from Roxas, trying to calm her breathing. He’d landed. He was safe.
Namine looked at the sketch- two figures with other, shadowy people floating in the background behind them. One shadow was Roxas, hovering at Sora’s back. The other shadow was her- and she drifted over-
“-Kairi.”

Date: 2006-05-17 07:41 pm (UTC)Particularly I like, She flitted from memory to memory, sensing, as she did so, the quiet joy in him. ... One more moment to cherish, to remember. These days would never come again.
And the ending, of course, is lovely.
