Challenge: [077] Martyr
Title: end of innocence
Wordcount: 377
Characters: Sora
Spoilers: KH (end), KH2, and possibly beyond.
Notes: Every cause needs a certain number of sacrifices; and the best are those that never see it coming til it is much too late.
The first small thing came in the form of a friendship betrayed –- but that betrayal was undone in the end, his white-shadow playmate only the victim of the Seeker of Darkness.
... wasn't he?
Slithering darknesses are a simple foe; and these he vanquished without a second thought, sweet child of light that he was. And if the thought that these shivering dark things had once been a neighbour, a mother, a child, it was pushed away –- for the Dark was Wrong incarnate, and his path was true, the game afoot.
The second small thing came in in the whisper of an empty shell fading away to inky mist, giving up a hollow half-life of crimson flame to speed him on his hero's shining quest, this wonderful game.
Even though those hollow shells were only mockeries, only aped the semblance of humanity –- had no heart, no care, no self.
... didn't they?
Those false lives led him down the primrose path; cost his playmate his own identity -– cast to the Dark –- and sought to take all hearts, all reason, all life as their own ... as his own, that hollow husk of the Seeker, tortured shell of a wounded soul, mouthing words of its own pain even as it dragged them to oblivion.
To stop the Seeker's cast-off husk, he had given his all; but someone else had made a greater sacrifice yet. And there before his eyes a person had died.
That was the third small thing.
And now he stood on a bare battle-plain, dust scouring eyes once bright as the sky and the carnage howling all around; for here the Enemy is not the mindlessness of shadows seeking blindly in the dark, nor the endless hunger of Nobody seeking completeness and redemption.
Here his adversary would fall, and bleed, and die, as the Sage had died ...
The scales have fallen from his eyes now like the shattering of a rosy mirror; but yet he stood his ground. To save it all, he had thrown his own self away before he ever knew the price that must be paid.
Now, too late to save himself, he understood -- the shining hero, hands drenched in blood.

I mean i try not to think too much about the logistics of KH because... well there are a lot of questions and a person could wind up thinking about it all forever.
Maddening, isn't it? *grins* And yet it can be worthwhile to poke it at, sometimes.
The idea that the battle may now be turning people against people is a... strange thought. Definately changes things for poor Sora D:
At yet in some ways that seems to be what the special trailer was building towards -- and, well, one could make the argument that he already was turning people against people. But they were not really "people", but the "enemy", and that makes it better --
Until you think about it just a little too much.
It was a very clever thing, to underscore the Nobody's strangeness (for example) and downplay the fact that these are thinking beings. Sora is / was too innocent to question about the "Bad Guys" ... but I don't see that lasting much longer ...
Anyhoo, very nice and enjoyable
Thank ye again, and apologies for the ramble ;D
