Title: Spider
Word count: 183
Characters: Marluxia, Namine, Axel
Spoilers: For CoM, yes.
Notes: I wrote this a while ago, as in at least two months, but never actually posted it. I'm not totally happy with it, but if two months of staring can't make it better, then nothing will. So, here we go.
First person to guess Axel's true motivation here gets a cookie.
"What'll you do when it bites you?"
Axel leans against the wall, several feet away, arms crossed and face closed off. He watches dispassionately as Marluxia allows a black widow spider to crawl across his fingers.
"Oh, it wouldn't dare," he says with a snake-like whisper. "It knows better than to tempt the wrath of its god."
Axel grins, a cracked, poisonously bitter thing.
A god.
The black widow crawls and crawls over the pale skin, as if looking for the perfect place.
"No," Marluxia coos, standing, raising his hand into the air, "my baby knows better." His gaze flickers over at Axel. "It would never bite me."
Axel doesn't bother to hide his snort of derision. Instead, he moves towards the door, preparing.
"Naminé," Marluxia says quietly, "would you like to see it?"
The girl gives a frightened moan,
and suddenly the spider bursts into flame.
By the time Marluxia looks, Axel is already gone, long gone.
Marluxia crouches down behind Namine, running his hands lightly over her face, eventually through her hair, toying with the white-gold strands idly.
Slowly, he smiles.
