Title: A Fairytale for Fools

He rested his head in her lap, allowing her words to wash over and fill his being. Her soft, gentle voice reached down and withdrew memories from the depths of his heart. Images of the two of them as children, together on their island, laughing, playing and dreaming arose.
“And so the white knight in his shining armor defeated the wicked black knight and saved the fair princess from the tall tower. And together they lived happily ever after. The end.”
“That sounds just like us, Naminé!” Riku lifted his head to look at her. “You, a princess trapped in a tower, and me, your white Knight.”
His heart fluttered as her lips lifted into a rare smile and her eyes rose from her sketchbook to meet his. So rare was her smile these days; he swore to himself that someday he’d bring back the light to her face. Then they’d be happy again, but he spoke not a word of this to Naminé. Talk of feelings was an unspoken taboo.
“Your outfit doesn’t appear very white, Riku,” she said in that soft, gentle voice of hers. Riku looked down at the assortment of red, black, and blue that made up his attire. She had a point, but Riku, being Riku, had a loophole.
“My hair!” He ran a hand through his silver tresses, causing them to fall around his face. Naminé stared at him for a moment and then a giggle escaped her. Riku smiled back at her, there would have been a time when he had been upset that she laughed at him, but now her happiness was all that mattered.
“True, your hair is the perfect shade of white.”
Riku walked forward and gripped her hand tightly; she looked at this hand, and then at his face. He dropped to one knee and bowed his head. “Naminé, my princess, I vow that, as your knight, I will free you from this tower. And together we’ll go back home. I’ll be worthy of my promise to protect you.”
Her hand twitched as though to pull away from his grip, but she did not. “Thank you.” There was no change in her tone, still soft and flat as ever. “W-when do we leave?”
“Tomorrow.”
But tomorrow faded into the next day, and the days became weeks, the weeks became months, and still he promised everyday that the next would be the one they prayed for. Specters in black came in and out of the white room, whispering in the ears of the two children. But Riku paid them no heed; Naminé was all that mattered.
He could not understand; why had the day not come? The Princess in the story had been rescued and Naminé was just like, and in everyway he could think of, better than she! And he was good enough to be a Knight, wasn’t he? Riku was noble, brave and strong. The knight and the princess had their happy ending. Why shouldn’t Naminé and he have one? Did they not deserve to be happy? It struck the boy like lightning; quick and powerful.
The black knight.
Riku had to defeat the black knight first.
More waiting and more whispers from the specters in black. More agitated and more malicious. They hovered over Naminé, speaking poison and lies. He kept his mouth shut, for the sake of their promise; he would not jeopardize their future. Until one word caught his ear.
“Sora.”
He gripped the charm that Naminé gave to him in his pocket; the memory of his promise to her.
The black knight had arrived.

The only bit of criticism I have is the line "Naminé was just like (no, better) than she!" -- the text in the brackets should be seen as optional. You know, like, the sentence should make sense with or without them; it's just an insert. But 'just like than she' doesn't work, so ... might want to change that? :/
Otherwise~ it's great. X3;;
