Challenge; None
Title; None
Word Count; 170
Notes; ... Pretend it works. I just wanted to write something about a hat.
Hats weren’t an uncommon sight on the islands, but they were usually just baseball caps and the occasional fishermen’s hat.
The tattered brown scrap in between Selphie’s hands was neither of these, though, and she raced along the town’s narrow streets to grab hold of the tall man in the long duster so casually walking away. “H-hey!”
He turned his head to glance down at the teenager, and that was enough for her to continue. “Who… how did… why did you give me this?” She held up the worn fabric clutched tight in her grasp.
The man merely smiled, then looked away again, wavy hair obscuring his face from her view in the bright sun. “You remind me of a girl I once knew. Just hang onto it for me, until I find her.”
The years have passed, though, and she is older now, a young woman still wishing and dreaming.
Wishing and dreaming that he’ll come back someday to reclaim the cowboy hat she’s grown to cherish so much.
