Notes: It's kind of bothered me for a while now...
It's empty.
The dust had settled around bits of broken buildings before the first shadows began to emerge. True, hiding hadn't done them much good at all--stray bursts of power or shrapnel had still plummeted through the air, crushing or shredding whatever unfortunate not-thing happened to lay in their path.
Where are they?
Confused and disoriented, they crept to the center of the once-imposing city. Around them, broken signs tried to spell out nonsense as neon leaked into the cold, grimy air. Some of them looked, others remained intent. The castle-tower-fortress-base was waiting for them, and the Organization within its sporadic towers.
Where did they go?
But that building, the diamond amid the Nothingness, lay in ruins. Fragments of stone and invisible walkways rose from the ashen ground at jagged angles. The Numbers were not inside. Not a weapon, not a footprint, not a trace was left of them.
Why?
And so the shadowy dusks and dancers were left alone, without orders, without instructions, without plans and plots to fill an endless void of time. They flocked and divided like fish, terrified without feeling fear. But slowly, piece by piece, something new formed. The mutilated pieces were cleaned and put back together in a stained-glass-jigsaw, the palace-spire-bunker was rebuilt.
What will we do now?
And so the World That Never Was continued to Be.
