Challenge: [104] The Show Must Go On
Title: The Show Must Go On
Word Count: 243
Pairing: Implied Zexion/Demyx
Warning: Spoilers for KH: CoM, implied character death
An elegant song filled the halls of the Castle that Never Was, the notes played delicately. Clone were dancing- waltzing and promenading and tangoing up and down, around and around.
And then, with a sudden twang of discord, the clones fell, flooding the room.
Demyx froze, eyes wide.
He could feel him- fading, fading, fading, gone.
And then the notes were played mindlessly (no, heartlessly), the water for a single clone provided by Demyx’s own tears. The clone stood before him, not at all a clone. It was short, with a faint pout on its watery lips, arms crossed, hair covering one eyes.
And, fuck it if they didn’t have hearts, because Zexion was his fucking heart.
Demyx gazed at the liquid illusion of his love in front of him.
He reached out a hand, desperately trying to grab him, hold onto him, keep him safe.
But as soon as his fingers left the sitar, the song (what a broken song it was) stopped, and the clone gave way to nothing but a puddle on the ground.
For a moment, Demyx could only stare ahead blankly, feeling as if not only his heart, but part of his soul had been ripped away as well.
And then he picked up his sitar, starting a new melody. Clones danced, waltzing and promenading and tangoing. And he always wore that fake smile and portrayed the joy he could not feel.
Because the show must go on.
