Challenge: [121] Strings of Fate
Title: Sora & The Score
Wordcount: 700 ^^;;
Notes: Sora stumbles upon one of Fantasia's characters. It finds him inspiring, eventually. And this is all quite literal, as well as silly :D

Sora had just ducked down into to Secret Place to find some provisions...

He hadn't expected to find a creepy, cloaked guy growing out of the rock, or on drawing a paopu for Kairi. And he hadn't planned on finding a yellow, quivering stick-thing on the cave wall -- but that was, he decided, by far the least important.

Still, it's arrival was strange -- especially the faint, but cheery, music it was emitting. Playing? No, emitting... Sora scooped up the yellow-bright stick curiously, and brought it up outside. "Heey. Riku! Do you think it's from another world? I think it's alive look, it's shaking!"

"Not now, Sora!" Riku was sparring with Tidus and Wakka.. For whatever reason, he seemed to think that winning (one last time) was more important then taking time to look at the little Otherworldly animal...mineral...lifeform...thing.

--

Sora meant to find out more about it, though -- but he accidentally forgot all about it in the chaos of falling off the Earth and losing his friends and finding a mission.

The music-string wasn't hurt, though. There was another heart in Sora, and she loved to listen to it's compositions. Besides, she was quiet and it was shy. They got along.

--

But eventually she woke up, and the Score (for that was who the lost stick-string was) spent several long weeks in Sora's pocket, unable to see what was going on, unable to make up new pieces for the story it was lost in.

It repeated the same anthems, frustrated, hoping that Sora would recall it was sitting there, in his pocket.

Sora didn't remember -- he seemed to be used to the constant, clever music by now -- but he did fall asleep.

The Score seized it's chance; it slid out of the white flower, and out to freedom.

--

It seemed like only a second later when it was caught again. Roxas scooped it up, just as Sora had. "What are you?" he asked, before a shout ("Dude! You're never going to guess--") distracted him.

The Score had just enough time to figure out a song for this world, before it was again banished to a pocket. It meant to cry out, respond with some loud, angry composition -- but then it realized that Roxas didn't have a heart like he should. It felt bad, so it sang a sweet, sad, hopeful, theme instead.

--

It wasn't until Sora met Yen Sid that he remembered.

"Um..Master Yen?" ("Yen Sid," Donald hissed, stomping just a little on Sora's foot.)

The wizard turned wide eyes to Sora. "Yes?"

"This string." Sora withdrew a disbelieving Score. "I never did figure out what it is."

"Ah." Yen Sid picked up the string, who seemed to be delighted to see someone it knew. "This is important, and it has been missing. This string is the Score. It always watched the world, little stories and grand dramas, and it played music to make them -- what? Realer, more artistic, or cohesive, I believe."

"Why'd it stay with me, then?"

"I couldn't say. Maybe it got stuck with you..maybe it liked your adventure. It once fancied that it's music directed things, inspired things..."

Sora grinned apologetically, at the pulsing, beating Score. "I think it just got stuck with me. I didn't really think about it, but...it was inspiring. I liked it; I could never have concentrated or cared like I did if it wasn't playing. But it -- ah, you," he amended, addressing the Score directly. "Should be able to inspire whoever you want. Seeya."

--

Unbound, now, propped up in a magic window where it could see Sora's story unfolding clearly, it was time for the Score to get back to composing freely, at it's leisure.

Yen Sid didn't seem to appreciate it though..."And what do you call this?" he asked, during an especially loud, exciting piece.

"BADAA,DAA,DAADAA--"

"'Strings of Fate'? That's dramatic. Why not call it 'Showdown at Hollow Bastion', something sensible?"

"DAADAA,DAAAAA,Buddibuddibum!"

"Ever since he complimented you, you believe Sora is the string that determines the worlds' fate?" Yen Sid was not impressed. But, he thought, it's composed for sillier things I suppose..my old apprentice, for one..

XDDD

*purrs and loves*

That's ADORABLE.

I love the way you draw up characters I only half remember and make them live so well in KH! Sensible and sweet.

Well done. ^^

Somehow....my image of this is inexplicably damaged by that MST thing of a music note with the scary scary man-woman thing...

*shakes fist at lynx*

That being said, this was a unique take! =D

This is just amazing! It's so cute and unique, what a creative twist on the challenge theme.

There are a few misspellings here and there, but otherwise it's written very well. =)
