Title: Scavenger Hunt
Rating: PG-13
Notes:  Curses, I missed the deadline.  Oh, well.  Here you go, anyway!  Thanks to [profile] crimsoncookie for the beta. :)

Fuu stopped at the edge of the woods outside Twilight Town, looking up at the sky.  The heavy branches dimmed the sunset, shadowing the path.  She slipped her backpack from her shoulders and knelt to rummage through it.  "Where did I put that flash-- here it is."  She pushed aside a struggle ball, her mom's camera, and a little plush chocobo before pulling out the flashlight at the bottom.  She flipped it on - cursing as the bright light hit her eyes - and pointed it at the path ahead.  Okay.  Now to find that chest.

Fuu's team was on a good pace to win the annual Twilight Town Scavenger Hunt, though (of course) she and Vivi had done most of the collection work.  He was probably at the train station while Seifer harassed Hayner and his friends - after all, they couldn't let those alley wusses get ahead.  The next task was to find a chest filled with marbles.  She'd wanted Rai to come with her - not 'cause the mansion was supposed to be haunted, of course, just there was a lot of territory to cover - but he'd begged off to help Vivi.

"That idiot.  Rai better know he's gonna owe me for this."  She waved the flashlight at a nearby tree.  Nothing.  She walked on.  "All Vivi had to do was visit the ticket counter.  If Rai's gonna make excuses, he should at least pretend to help Sei--"

The bushes rustled.  She swung the flashlight around.  "Someone here?"

A scrape.  A thin whisper.  Nobody in the dim circle of her light.  Okay. Better leave.

A pale flash against the ground.  She turned and ran - screw pride, screw victory.  Just get home.  She ignored the slam of her backpack against her ribs, sprinted for the hole back to town.  Sprinted into the blade-sharp tendrils that shot from the dirt in front of her.  Fell.

Something untwisted above her, coiling white and faceless through the air and she was screaming, screaming and wrapping her arms around herself because it was lifting her up, touching and searching like it wanted under her skin.  Burning in her left eye.  She couldn't close it - her right eye was shut tight as she could but she couldn't close it and it was eyeless and horrible and staring straight at her--

A man's voice.

"Leave her.  That's not Roxas."

Darkness.

Fuu opened her eyes.  Forest.  Wall.  Something was wrong.  She pushed herself to her feet, looked around - the trees were cutouts, one no closer than the others.  Flat.  She raised her hand, hit her forehead.  Too close.  Something wet and smeary on her fingers.  She closed her right eye.

The world went dark.

Oh my god.

"M-m-m-m..."

My eye.

"Hel...m..."

Why can't I talk?   Why can't I say that I'm...

"Blind."

Good build up! ^^ Poor Fuu, blind because of a stupid mistake of a Dusk.

He was probably at the train station while Seifer harassed Hayner and his friends - after all, they couldn't let those alley wusses get ahead. XD Top.

The ending here is amazing. The mood of the story changes so quickly -- I like it. It's crazy.
