Challenge: 151 [Surreal]
Title: The Least She Can Do
wordcount: 280
spoilers: Nope
rating/warning: G, and nope.
She watches him on the monitor, every day, making sure that the life he leads is smooth and pleasant.
He races off to class with his friends, grinning and laughing.
He waits for them by the school gates, and together they go and get some ice cream.
She places a hand on the glass and watches him sleep, a faint smile on his face. She doesn’t feel much like smiling.
He wins that summer’s struggle match, and accepts his reward with a boyish grin that she’d never had the chance to see him wear when he was among the waking.
He chalks it up his unique fighting style. She chalks it up to deft manipulation in the program.
He goes home to loving parents every day and has home-cooked meals. His parents don’t look very much like him, but no one really does. He never notices.
She places a hand on his forehead, trying to apologize. He doesn’t move, for he is comatose.
In this dreamland, he is happy, safe, loved, and no trouble from Organization XIII, no hurtful memories, no death can touch him here.
Namine is sorry that she imprisoned him in here, but when she sees him laugh as if he has no cares in the world, sees him laugh like she never got to see in her short time with him, she doesn’t regret him.
She is trying to apologize for taking away the thing he loved most.
“Roxas, wait up!” Green eyes flash as he chases after his best friend. He’ll never know that his friends, his family, his world is entirely composed of data. To Namine, it’s the least she can do for Axel.
